Student answer (Band 6.0)

In modern times, the issue of globalisation is increasing interaction and cooperation between countries has become highly controversial. There are those who say that the internet, air travel, trade and popular culture rapidly increased and it is good thing. However, other people believe that it is not true. In this essay I will examine both sides of the argument and provide my overall opinion.

Generally speaking, there are two main reasons why people believe that the internet, air travel, trade and popular culture, globalisation has increased dramatically and it is god think. Perhaps the main reason why people are in favor of this idea is because globalistation brings significant economic benefits to countries. In creased international trade allows businesses to sell their products in foreign markets and attract more customers. Moreover, global companies can invest in developing countries, creating new employment opportunities and enhance people's living standards. For example, many multinational companies establish factories in developing countries, which can increase employment and economic growth.

Despite these arguments, there is also a case for the idea that globalisation helps people from different countries understand each other better. through the internet, international travel and popular culture, people can learn about different languages, traditions and lifestyles. This interaction can reduce cultural misunderstandings and encourage greater respect among nations. For instance, people can easily learn about foreign cultures through social media, international films and online platforms.

In conclusion, globalisation has brought nations closer by improving communication, trade and cultural exchange. In my opinion, this increased interaction is a positive development because it creates more opportunities for economic growth and helps people understand different cultures.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position throughout. The ideas regarding economic benefits and cultural exchange are relevant and supported with examples, such as multinational companies and social media. However, the development is somewhat superficial; the arguments could be extended further to reach a higher band. The introduction is a bit repetitive, restating the prompt's list of factors rather than synthesising them. Overall, the response is well-focused, but it lacks the depth of analysis required for a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Despite these arguments', and 'For instance' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing in the first paragraph is a bit clunky. The progression of ideas is clear, but the flow could be improved with more sophisticated linking phrases to connect the arguments more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'multinational companies', 'economic growth', and 'cultural misunderstandings'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are minor errors in word choice, such as 'god think' (likely a typo for 'good thing') and 'globalistation'. The vocabulary is functional but lacks the precision and variety of less common lexical items that would characterise a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'the issue of globalisation is increasing interaction' (which is syntactically awkward) and 'there are those who say that the internet... rapidly increased' (missing auxiliary verbs). Punctuation is generally correct, but the sentence construction occasionally lacks fluency. The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score.
