Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the topic of globalisation but fails to provide a clear, sustained argument. While the prompt asks to discuss the view that globalisation is a good thing and provide an opinion, the essay lacks a structured discussion. The ideas are presented as a list of benefits rather than a cohesive argument, and the conclusion contradicts the earlier positive tone by stating it is 'neither purely good nor bad' without supporting this shift. The development of ideas is superficial, relying on simple examples like 'Punjabi, Sikh, Balochi' rather than exploring the broader implications of globalisation as requested by the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks effective paragraphing, consisting of a single block of text which makes it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used in a very mechanical and repetitive way, such as the frequent use of 'By' to start sentences. There is a lack of logical flow between the introduction, the body points, and the final summary. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between the benefits of the internet and the cultural examples feels abrupt. To improve, the student should use clear paragraph breaks and a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. Phrases like 'make the world more beautiful' and 'many benefits' are used frequently, which restricts the range. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'getting the facilities of Air travel' and 'time of delivering the stocks had decreased'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of precise or academic vocabulary prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. The student should focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to globalisation and economics to enhance their expression.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. There are consistent issues with verb tenses, such as 'Internet had changed' and 'internet had taked place', as well as subject-verb agreement errors like 'globalisation... bring positive results'. The sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces and missing commas. The student needs to focus on mastering basic tense consistency and subject-verb agreement before attempting more complex sentence structures.
