Student answer (Band 5.0)

In recent decades, globalisation has accelerated considerably due to the growth of the internet, international trade and affordable air travel. While some people argue that increased interaction between nation has brought significant benefits, other believe that it can have negative consequences. In my view, although globalisation present certain challenges, its overall is impact is strongly positive.

On the one hand , increased international interaction can create difficulties for individuals and societies. One major concern is the loss of culture identity. As people around the word are increasingly exposed to the same films, music, brands and social media trends, traditional customs and local languages may gradually become less infuential, particulary among younger generations. another disadvantage is that greater international trade can increase competitions that have greater financial resources and access to global market. This can lead to unemployment and economic difficulties in some communities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 143 words long. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While you have introduced the topic and presented a clear position, the development of ideas is severely limited. You have begun to discuss the negative aspects of globalisation, but you have not provided the required discussion of the positive aspects, nor have you reached a conclusion. To achieve a higher band, you must fully develop all parts of the prompt, including providing specific examples and a balanced discussion, ensuring the response meets the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay shows a basic level of logical organisation. You have used some cohesive devices, such as 'On the one hand' and 'another disadvantage', to signal the structure of your argument. However, because the essay is incomplete and lacks a conclusion, the overall progression is interrupted. Paragraphing is present, but the abrupt ending prevents a coherent flow of ideas. To improve, ensure that each paragraph is fully developed with supporting evidence and that you include a clear concluding paragraph that summarises your main points and restates your position.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'accelerated considerably', 'international interaction', and 'cultural identity'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'nation' instead of 'nations', 'word' instead of 'world', 'infuential' instead of 'influential', and 'particulary' instead of 'particularly'. These errors are noticeable but do not generally impede communication. To reach a higher band, focus on proofreading for spelling accuracy and attempt to incorporate more precise, topic-specific collocations to enhance the sophistication of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'globalisation present' (subject-verb agreement), 'its overall is impact' (word order/redundancy), and 'competitions that have' (noun-verb agreement). While these errors are frequent, the meaning remains clear. To improve, you should focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent use of articles. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while ensuring they are error-free will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
