Student answer (Band 6.5)
There are conflicting views as to whether globalisation which is growing rapidly among nations as a result of the internet, air travel and so on is a good trend or not. Although some people believe that this phenomenon cannot be a positive thing, others including me, think it is beneficial.
First and foremost, the interaction between countries will lead to the transfer of knowledge and data. Each country is usually famous for one or two good aspects worldwide. For example, in some areas of China or India, the concepts of meditation are taught professionally. Thus, this easy interaction would pave the way for those who want to be educated by native experts. Moreover, communication between people all around the world through the internet or other sources will reduce biases. In other words, being a narrow-minded person or a racist is mainly because of the lack of awareness about things or people that are different or minorities. Through knowing them better people would become more open and flexible as they understand we are all humans and our differences make this universe far more beautiful.
Some argue that involving with other cultures will cause an Identity crisis especially among younger people as they cannot distinguish the importance of their traditions. They also believe that getting more familiar with other countries would increase the rate of migration to developed countries as people in developing countries want to live in better situations. However, I believe that merging into other cultures is not something that could be totally prevented and people should understand the value of their own traditions and be proud of them. Additionally, migration to progressed nations can be effective as migrants can bring back all things they have learned to their motherlands and improve their countries.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I believe the growing communication among nations is a good trend as people can learn from each other and also because this reduces biases.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position from the introduction through to the conclusion. The ideas are relevant and well-supported, particularly the discussion on the transfer of knowledge and the reduction of bias. The counter-argument regarding identity crises and migration is also handled well, with a clear rebuttal provided. To reach a higher band, the development of the 'identity crisis' point could be slightly more nuanced, as it currently relies on a brief mention of traditions. Overall, the response is balanced and directly answers the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the main arguments from the counter-arguments. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Moreover', 'In other words', and 'Additionally' are used appropriately to guide the reader. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions between sentences could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Referencing is clear throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main stance without introducing new information.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is sufficient to convey ideas with precision. You use some good collocations such as 'pave the way', 'narrow-minded', and 'identity crisis'. There are occasional minor inaccuracies or slightly informal phrasing, such as 'good aspects' or 'things that are different'. To improve, try to incorporate more academic, less common lexical items to demonstrate a wider range. For instance, instead of 'good trend', you could use 'positive development' or 'beneficial phenomenon'. The spelling is accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is generally good control over grammar, and errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. For example, the use of conditional-like structures and relative clauses is effective. There are some minor slips, such as 'involving with other cultures' (should be 'getting involved with' or 'engaging with') and 'all things they have learned' (could be more concise). Overall, the grammatical accuracy is strong, and the variety of structures is sufficient for this level.
