Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 109 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While the prompt asks for a discussion of the view and the student's own opinion, the response lacks a clear, developed position and fails to provide sufficient supporting evidence or examples. The ideas presented—such as the internet, air travel, and online shopping—are mentioned but remain underdeveloped. To improve, you must expand your arguments with specific examples and ensure you address all parts of the prompt, including a clear introduction, body paragraphs with supporting details, and a conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is too short to demonstrate effective paragraphing or a logical progression of ideas. While there is a basic attempt to group ideas, the lack of cohesive devices (such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in contrast') makes the text feel disjointed. The sentences are simple and lack the necessary links to create a smooth flow of information. To reach a higher band, you need to use a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear central topic that is logically connected to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'made the world a short place' and 'made lives much easier' are imprecise and lack the academic tone required for IELTS Task 2. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or an awareness of collocation. To improve, you should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to globalisation, such as 'interconnectivity', 'cross-cultural exchange', or 'economic integration', and practice using these in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('internet', 'social media'), incorrect verb forms ('people also knew' instead of 'people also learn'), and punctuation issues (lack of capitalization at the start of sentences). The sentence structures are predominantly simple, with very few attempts at complex sentences. To improve, you must focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles. Increasing the variety of your sentence structures by using subordinating conjunctions will also help improve your score.
