Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 173 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the prompt asks for a discussion of globalisation and a personal opinion, the response is underdeveloped. It focuses almost exclusively on tourism in Pakistan rather than addressing the broader implications of globalisation mentioned in the prompt (trade, internet, culture). The position is stated but lacks the depth and supporting arguments required for a higher band. The response is essentially a list of points about local tourism rather than a balanced discussion of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The essay lacks a clear structure. There is no introduction that paraphrases the prompt effectively, and the body paragraphs are not clearly delineated. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and often repetitive (e.g., 'Most of the people', 'Many people'). The progression of ideas is disjointed; the transition from the general concept of a 'global village' to specific tourist spots in Pakistan is abrupt and lacks logical flow. Paragraphing is insufficient, making the text feel like a collection of loosely related sentences rather than a cohesive argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. There is a reliance on simple, everyday words, and the student struggles with collocations and word choice. For example, 'famous culture' should be 'popular culture', and 'growth interaction' is not a standard collocation. The term 'internationalization' is used incorrectly in context. There is no attempt to use less common or academic vocabulary, which limits the ability to convey complex ideas. Spelling errors, such as 'foreigner' instead of 'foreigners', further detract from the overall quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The grammar is characterized by frequent errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people has travel', 'Pakistan has to much travel places') and article usage. The sentence structures are predominantly simple, with very few attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after commas and incorrect capitalization. The lack of control over basic grammatical structures makes the writing difficult to follow at times, preventing the achievement of a higher band score.
