Student answer (Band 5.5)

Globalisation has become a major key for development in recent times. Nowadays, variations like networking, travelling, famous culture and business have elevated the relations between different nations. I partially agree with the said point and the reasons for my agreement and slight disagreement will be discussed in the ensuing paragraphs.

Interactions amongst various countries have only brought positive reformations to them. Exchange of new technology is an extremely important aspect. For example, a study by The Times of India newspaper shows that in a country like India, majority of it's technological reforms are the ones adapted from other more developed nations like America, China and Japan. Bluetooth could be one such example for the technological change adopted from abroad. Other than science, exchange of cultures, goods and ideas are also beneficial. Some of which could be helpful in making the day to day life easier and more pleasant. Trade has skyrocketed ever since globalisation expanded which brought huge improvement in the economical sector.

Although there is a majority of positive changes due to internationalisation, there are also some negative factors that need to be kept in mind. An extremely important and huge example of such a case could be that of COVID-19. The virus originated from China apparently and the cause of it's spreading was interactions between China and the other nations physically through worldwide integration. The danger of distribution of other such harmful things is there due to the same.

Agglomerating the aforementioned points, it can be concluded that globalisation has many pros like exchange of ideas, cultures, trade, goods but also some cons like spreading of deadly viruses.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the benefits and drawbacks of globalisation. You clearly state your position in the introduction, which is a positive feature. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention technology and trade, the points could be extended with more depth. For instance, the example of Bluetooth is quite specific but lacks a broader explanation of how it impacts societal development. The counter-argument regarding COVID-19 is relevant, but the conclusion is a bit brief and merely summarizes points rather than reinforcing your overall stance. To reach a higher band, ensure that each body paragraph provides a fully developed argument with clear supporting evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'For example', and 'Agglomerating the aforementioned points'. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'Agglomerating the aforementioned points' to start the conclusion. Additionally, the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly rather than relying on simple sentence starters.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'reformations', 'economical sector', and 'internationalisation'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'major key for development' is not a standard collocation, and 'famous culture' should be 'popular culture'. There are also minor errors in word formation, such as 'economical' where 'economic' would be more precise. To improve, focus on using less common lexical items more accurately and ensure that your word choices fit the academic context of the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are persistent errors in grammar and punctuation. For instance, there is a recurring error with possessive apostrophes, such as 'it's technological reforms' (should be 'its') and 'it's spreading' (should be 'its'). Additionally, there are some minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. Despite these errors, the meaning is generally clear, and the mistakes do not significantly impede communication. To achieve a higher band, focus on proofreading for common grammatical slips and increasing the variety of error-free complex structures.
