Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 84 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While the student expresses a clear opinion that globalisation is beneficial for peace, the ideas are severely underdeveloped. There is no attempt to provide supporting examples or a balanced discussion of the topic as required by the prompt. The response lacks the depth and structure expected of an Academic Task 2 essay, resulting in a very limited response that does not fully explore the complexities of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response consists of a single, run-on sentence written in capital letters, which makes it difficult to follow. There is no paragraphing, and the lack of punctuation makes the progression of ideas unclear. Cohesive devices are almost entirely absent, with the exception of a few basic conjunctions like 'and' and 'as'. The text lacks logical organisation, and the absence of sentence boundaries means the reader cannot identify distinct points or arguments. The overall structure is highly informal and does not meet the requirements for academic writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. The student uses informal language such as 'YEAH' and 'NO TIO WARS'. There are several spelling errors, such as 'HOISTORY' and 'ELEMINATE', which impede readability. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to discuss the topic of globalisation in any meaningful way. The student relies on basic, everyday words and fails to demonstrate the ability to use topic-specific terminology or academic collocations. The overall lexical control is weak, and the informal tone is inappropriate for an IELTS academic task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical structure is extremely poor. The entire response is one long, unpunctuated sentence, which demonstrates a lack of control over basic sentence construction. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and word formation, such as 'one of the way' instead of 'one of the ways' and 'uncomfortability' instead of 'discomfort'. The use of capital letters throughout is also a significant issue. There is no evidence of complex sentence structures, and the frequent grammatical errors make the text difficult to parse and understand.
