Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the benefits of globalisation, specifically focusing on economic development and technology. However, the development of ideas is limited and often repetitive. While a position is stated, it lacks depth and nuance. The examples provided, such as India purchasing weapons from Russia, are relevant but not fully explained in the context of the broader argument. The essay tends to over-generalise, and the conclusion does not effectively synthesise the main points or provide a final reflection on the topic. To improve, you should aim to provide more detailed explanations and ensure that each paragraph contributes clearly to your overall argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is often disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'firstly', 'adding on', and 'more over', but they are sometimes used mechanically or incorrectly. For instance, 'more over' is used repeatedly and often inappropriately. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of arguments. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks a clear topic sentence and supporting evidence flow. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each sentence logically follows the previous one will enhance coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Basic terms like 'development', 'country', and 'technology' are used frequently. There are attempts to use more specific vocabulary, but these are often hindered by word choice errors or awkward collocations, such as 'economic highly of a country' or 'business their products'. Spelling errors are also present, such as 'techonlogy'. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your vocabulary to include more precise academic terms and collocations, and ensure that words are used in their correct grammatical form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently marred by grammatical errors. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'every one are aware', 'how they does'), article usage, and punctuation. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper structure, which impacts the clarity of the message. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors is high. Focusing on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your score.
