Student answer (Band 7.0)
Globalisation has become a major part of modern life, mainly because of the rapid development of the internet, international travel, trade and popular culture. While some people believe that greater interaction between countries has created significant benefits, others may argue that it has also caused certain problems. In my opinion, the advantages of globalisation are greater than its disadvantages.
One of the main benefits of globalisation is that it has created greater economic opportunities for countries and individuals. International trade allows countries to sell their products to foreign markets and purchase goods that may not be available domestically. As a result, businesses can expand their operations and create more employment opportunities. For example, many developing countries have attracted international companies because of their lower production costs, which has provided jobs and improved the standard of living for local people.
Another important advantage is the exchange of knowledge and culture. The internet has made it possible for people to communicate with others from different parts of the world almost instantly. This has helped students and professionals gain access to international education, research and new ideas. In addition, people can experience foreign cultures through films, music, food and social media. Such interaction can increase understanding between nations and reduce cultural misunderstandings.
However, globalisation also has some negative consequences. Increased international competition can put pressure on small local businesses, as they may struggle to compete with large multinational companies. Furthermore, the widespread influence of international culture may sometimes reduce interest in traditional customs and local languages. Nevertheless, these problems can be addressed through appropriate government policies and efforts to preserve local culture.
In conclusion, although globalisation can create economic pressure and cultural challenges, I believe that increased interaction between nations is largely beneficial. It promotes trade, creates opportunities and allows people to share knowledge and understand different cultures. Therefore, the positive effects of globalisation outweigh its disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout the essay. The ideas regarding economic opportunities and cultural exchange are well-developed with relevant examples, such as the mention of developing countries and the role of the internet. The counter-argument is also acknowledged and addressed, which demonstrates a balanced approach. To reach a higher band, you could further extend your examples by providing more specific details or data to support your claims, ensuring that the development of each point is consistently thorough.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between the benefits and the drawbacks is smooth, using appropriate linking words like 'However' and 'Nevertheless'. Cohesive devices are used effectively to connect sentences and ideas, such as 'As a result' and 'In addition'. The paragraphing is logical and contributes to the overall clarity of the argument. The structure is consistent and easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a high band score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'rapid development', 'international trade', 'multinational companies', and 'cultural misunderstandings' are used accurately. While the vocabulary is appropriate and conveys your meaning clearly, it remains somewhat functional. To achieve a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated, less common lexical items or idiomatic collocations that demonstrate a deeper command of the language, such as 'economic integration' or 'homogenization of culture'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The essay displays a good variety of complex sentence structures, such as the use of conditional and concessive clauses (e.g., 'While some people believe...', '...as they may struggle to compete...'). The grammar is generally accurate, and there are very few errors. Punctuation is used correctly throughout. The majority of your sentences are error-free, which indicates a strong command of grammatical structures. To move into the highest band, ensure that even the most complex sentences remain perfectly controlled and free of any minor slips.
