Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many people believe that the rapid increase of globalisation, air travel, air trade and popular culture, through internet is a good thing. It is also believed that it builts a good relationship and interaction between nations.

On one hand, it is a great deal for everyone as they can learn new things about each other, including each others culture, styles and true history. In addition, increase of interaction also clears many myths which people have learned from their ancestors and from the books. Similarly, it also got easy to understand about each others religion, which opens the door for everyone to choose which religion they wants to follow. Technology played the most important role in this, by giving equal access to everyone for using internet and making friends internationally. It also created opportunities for businesses to extend and get followers from all over the world.

On the other hand, this interaction also have some. Feeling of people can get hurt by learning about other religions, because one thing which is allowed in one religion can be offensive in other. Furthermore, although some of the children wants to follow the religion they want, their parents force them to keep following the one they are born in. Global interaction are also became a major reason for cyber fraud and increased terrorism activities in many countries. To prevent these kind of crimes, the government had to take some serious steps and make new protocols, which can not be as satisfied for everyone. However, people should learn to cooperate with it.

In my opinion, globalisation is a good thing, which gave new opportunities to many people. It should continue to evolve and people should stay in touch with each other globally.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: discussing the view on globalisation and providing a personal opinion. The position is clear, particularly in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the benefits are touched upon, the negative aspects—such as the link between globalisation and terrorism—are mentioned but not sufficiently supported with specific examples or logical depth. The argument regarding religion is also slightly underdeveloped and could benefit from more nuanced explanation. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with clear reasoning and concrete illustrations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On one hand', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'this interaction also have some.' Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, making the progression of ideas feel a bit disjointed in the second body paragraph. Improved use of linking words and more varied cohesive structures would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific language like 'globalisation', 'cyber fraud', and 'protocols'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'it also got easy' instead of 'it has become easier' and 'can not be as satisfied' instead of 'may not be satisfactory'. The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main points, but lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('it builts', 'interaction also have', 'children wants'), incorrect verb tenses ('Global interaction are also became'), and missing articles or prepositions. These errors are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent verb tense usage, as these errors currently prevent the writing from reaching a higher level of accuracy.
