Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt by discussing the views on globalization and providing a personal opinion. However, the ideas remain somewhat under-developed, particularly in the body paragraphs where points about technology, travel, and trade are stated rather than fully extended with robust examples. Furthermore, the student failed to meet the minimum length requirement, containing only 222 words instead of the required 250 words. This under-length impacts the overall development and completeness of the response, pulling the task achievement score down into the lower band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays a discernible overall structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, indicating a clear attempt to organize information. However, logical progression is occasionally disrupted by abrupt transitions and incomplete sentences, such as the sentence ending abruptly with 'cu' in the second paragraph. Paragraphing is attempted, but some paragraphs lack internal cohesion and smooth referencing. Cohesive devices are used, but sometimes repetitively or mechanically, such as the frequent reliance on 'Similarly' and 'Furthermore'. Overall, the organization shows basic coherence but falls short of clear logical progression throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range to communicate basic ideas regarding globalization, the internet, and trade. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary items like 'prospective' (intended as perspective), 'recognization', and 'economical', but these are accompanied by noticeable word-choice and spelling errors. Spelling issues such as 'explianing', 'opnion', 'becomed', 'travell', 'exchangable', 'knows', 'vai', and 'buisnesses' occur throughout the text. These errors, while not severely impeding communication, restrict the lexical score as they highlight a lack of precision and control over word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though complex structures are frequently faulty. Examples of grammatical inaccuracies include 'interaction amongst the countries', 'Due to advancement in technology over the time has improved', and 'nations needs communications for personal and national well-beings.' Subject-verb agreement errors ('nations needs', 'trading increased') and tense inconsistencies ('Airlines becomed') are recurrent. Punctuation and phrasing are occasionally awkward, but despite these numerous errors, the core meaning remains partially intelligible, placing the grammar performance firmly within the Band 5 category.
