Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing the view of increased globalisation through the internet, air travel, and trade, while also providing a clear personal opinion. The writer establishes a position early on, stating, 'I strongly believe that it has more positive development.' Key aspects such as economic growth, e-commerce, and cultural exposure are mentioned and supported with examples like YouTube and Instagram. However, the development of these ideas remains somewhat superficial and general. While the prompt mentions multiple facets of globalisation like air travel and trade, the body paragraphs heavily concentrate on the internet and technology, leaving other areas underdeveloped. Consequently, the ideas are partially covered rather than fully extended, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, accompanied by a logical progression of ideas across paragraphs. Basic cohesive devices are present, such as 'For instance,' 'One other positive impact,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader through the text. However, paragraphing is somewhat disjointed, and the mechanical repetition of sentence starters limits fluency. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'It reflects of other cultures,' where the pronoun reference is ambiguous. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or over-used, which keeps the response within the Band 6 descriptor range for cohesion and paragraphing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate main ideas about technology, trading, and culture. There are successful attempts to use less common items such as 'e-commerce,' 'financial stability,' and 'exposure.' However, noticeable word choice and collocation errors appear throughout the response, such as 'The internet usage becoming more popular' instead of 'becoming more popular,' 'time taking process' instead of 'time-consuming,' and 'stay connect' instead of 'stay connected.' Additionally, grammatical forms of words are sometimes confused, as in 'can be achieve' instead of 'achieved.' These errors do not impede overall communication, but they prevent the score from reaching a higher band, making Band 6 appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilising structures such as conditional and concessive clauses (e.g., 'Although it has some negative impacts, I strongly believe...'). However, the text contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding verb tenses, articles, and prepositions. Examples include 'The advancement in technology change' (subject-verb agreement), 'access of International news' (preposition error), and 'It has been the great for keep yourself connected' (unnecessary article and incorrect gerund form). While these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear, the lack of error-free complex sentences restricts the score to a Band 5.5.
