Student answer (Band 7.0)
Globalisation has become an increasingly important part of modern life, largely because of the rapid development of the internet, international trade, air travel and popular culture. While some people believe that closer interaction between countries brings significant benefits, others are concerned about its negative effects. In my opinion, globalisation is generally beneficial because it creates economic opportunities and encourages cultural and educational exchange, although it needs to be managed carefully.
One major advantage of globalisation is that it allows countries to exchange goods, services, knowledge and technology more easily. International trade can create employment opportunities and give consumers access to a wider range of products at competitive prices. In addition, the internet has made it possible for people to communicate and work with individuals from different countries almost instantly. For example, a company in India can provide software or data-analysis services to clients in the United States or Europe without either side needing to travel. This can benefit both businesses and workers.
Another important benefit is greater cultural and educational interaction. People can learn about different traditions, languages and lifestyles through international travel, films, music and social media. Similarly, students can study at foreign universities or take online courses provided by institutions in other countries. Such experiences can broaden people's perspectives and help develop greater understanding between different societies.
In conclusion, although globalisation has some disadvantages, I believe that increased interaction between nations is largely positive. If its economic, cultural and environmental effects are managed responsibly, globalisation can provide substantial benefits for individuals, businesses and countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response fully addresses all parts of the prompt. The introduction clearly acknowledges both sides of the globalisation debate and explicitly states the writer's position that it is generally beneficial. Body paragraph one thoroughly discusses the economic advantages of international trade and technological connectivity, supported by a concrete, relevant example of a company in India providing services to clients in the US or Europe. Body paragraph two explores cultural and educational interaction, detailing how people learn about traditions and students can study abroad or take online courses. The conclusion neatly ties the arguments together while acknowledging the need for responsible management. Ideas are well-developed and sustained throughout without any off-topic tangents. The response aligns closely with the Band 8 descriptor as it covers all parts of the task well with fully developed and supported ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
Ideas are logically sequenced and progress naturally from the introduction to economic benefits, cultural benefits, and a balanced conclusion. Each paragraph has a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'While some people believe', 'One major advantage', 'In addition', 'Another important benefit', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader through the essay without feeling mechanical. Referencing and substitution are handled smoothly, and paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. This demonstrates the logical organization and clear progression characteristic of Band 7, with elements of Band 8 due to the seamless transitions and well-managed overall structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient and flexible range of vocabulary suited to an academic discussion on globalisation. Appropriate less common lexical items and collocations are utilized effectively, such as 'competitive prices', 'data-analysis services', 'broader people's perspectives' (though slightly awkward phrasing), and 'managed responsibly'. Word choices are generally accurate and natural, allowing the message to be communicated with precision. While there are no major lexical errors, the vocabulary occasionally relies on standard academic phrasing rather than exceptionally sophisticated or rare idiomatic terms, placing it securely at Band 7.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The response features a very good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional or concessive clauses such as 'While some people believe that closer interaction between countries brings significant benefits, others are concerned about its negative effects' and 'If its economic, cultural and environmental effects are managed responsibly, globalisation can provide substantial benefits...'. The majority of sentences are error-free, and punctuation is handled correctly throughout. There are only very occasional minor awkwardnesses, such as the slight grammatical friction in 'broader people's perspectives' (better as 'broaden people's perspectives'), but these do not impede communication. Control of grammar is strong, meriting a Band 8.
