Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing globalisation through the internet, air travel, trade, and popular culture, and attempts to give an opinion. However, the position is not always clearly stated or maintained throughout the essay. While main ideas are introduced, they tend to be repetitive and under-developed, relying on sweeping statements without sufficient extension or specific explanation. For instance, the discussion on trade mentions exports and imports but fails to fully explore why this is considered a good thing in depth. Furthermore, the conclusion merely restates previous points rather than providing a synthesized final thought. Based on these limitations, the response aligns best with Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into logical paragraphs with an introduction, body paragraphs focusing on specific facets of globalisation, and a conclusion, which shows some organisation. However, progression is often hindered by mechanical or faulty cohesive devices and unclear referencing. For example, phrases like 'Also most of the people believe' and 'This results a mutual' show weak links between sentences and clauses. Additionally, paragraph internal coherence is disrupted by fragmented sentences and abrupt shifts in focus, such as transitioning from air travel to India as an example without a smooth connective bridge. Overall organisation is adequate for a Band 5 score.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is somewhat limited and repetitive, with several spelling errors ('spontaneouosly', 'feauters', 'culuture', 'tourits', 'globalsation') that reflect a basic range. While the student attempts less common vocabulary such as 'globalisation', 'technology', and 'transportation', inaccurate word choices and word forms—such as 'having variety traditions increase fashion' and 'leaded to increase'—impair precision. The lexical range is minimally adequate to convey basic ideas, but noticeable errors in collocation and spelling place this performance squarely at Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but many of the complex forms are grammatically faulty. Frequent errors occur in tense usage, prepositions, and article omission, such as 'Using internet gives', 'Air travel is main transport', and 'This results a mutual'. Punctuation is also problematic, leading to run-on sentences that require the reader to re-read to grasp the intended meaning. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, the grammar performance reflects Band 5 descriptors.
