Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this age of technology, the world has became a global village, where we can communicate with anyone at any place, fast means of transportation are access-sable to everyone and culture mixing is common through globalization. Many argue that this increase in interaction is a beneficial thing, as it promotes new ways towards growth and understanding. In my opinion it is useful, but it may possess some danger for less popular cultures.

Modern technology has converted the world into a global village. Individuals can communicate throughout the globe. People can promote their unique thinking and can share their distinct culture to the world. Advance means of traveling (like aeroplanes and bullet train) have made travel affordable and convenient.

Many people believe that this surge in globalization is a positive trend. The globalization has made traveling and means of communication accessible to each individual. People can share their ideas throughout the globe and learn about different cultures. This exchange of information promotes understanding and empathy between nations, and build acceptance towards other's culture and traditions. It also make the Earth a global market, Businesses can promote their products worldwide and can deliver goods anywhere in the world (through shipment and cargo). This provide more growth opportunities and access to larger consumer market.

In my opinion, globalization is a useful trend due to large benefits that follows it. As we discussed earlier it give raise to understanding, and acceptance and provide new ways to trade and excel. But their is the compelling argument that globalization is harmful for small and less popular cultures. Many traditional method and cultural values are extincting due to influence of more rich and widely spread cultures (like k-pop and western culture), especially in under-developing countries, due to the youth of these countries are more influenced by the trends of these popular culture they are ignoring their own unique distinct values. In my opinion we should promote globalization, and take step to educate people about their unique inheritance and cultural values. In this way we can enjoy the benefits of globalization without loosing out distinct cultural identity.

In conclusion, Globalization is important pillar of modern society, promoting understanding, acceptance and financial opportunities among nation. In contrast it can damage small and less popular cultures.therefore we should educate people about preservation of their inheritance, so we can enjoy benefits of globalization without causing harm to our cultural inheritance.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the benefits and potential drawbacks of globalisation while clearly stating their own opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are relevant and extended, such as the discussion on cultural preservation versus economic growth. However, there is some repetition in the body paragraphs (for example, repeating the point about global communication and understanding across multiple sections), which prevents the ideas from being fully developed to a higher band. Nevertheless, the position remains clear throughout, and the main arguments are well-supported with everyday examples like K-pop and western culture.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay is generally coherent with a clear overall progression from the introduction to body paragraphs discussing benefits, then drawbacks, and finally a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. However, cohesion suffers from repetitive phrasing and occasional mechanical transitions (e.g., repeating 'In my opinion' and 'Many people believe'). Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the dangling modifier in 'due to the youth of these countries are more influenced...', which disrupts the flow of the sentence. Cohesive devices are present but can be clumsy, leading to a Band 6 level of organisation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'global village', 'cultural inheritance', and 'consumer market'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-formation errors throughout the text, such as 'became' instead of 'become', 'access-sable' instead of 'accessible', 'extincting' instead of 'becoming extinct', and 'under-developing' instead of 'developing'. These errors do not impede overall communication, but they prevent the score from reaching a higher band, as control over less common lexical items remains inconsistent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues that lower the overall accuracy. Examples include tense inconsistencies and awkward fragments, such as 'This provide more growth opportunities', 'due to large benefits that follows it', and the run-on structure in 'their is the compelling argument'. While the meaning remains generally clear and communication is not severely impeded, the high frequency of basic and intermediate errors places this response firmly in the Band 6 category.
