Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing the view that globalisation through the internet is a positive development and providing a personal opinion, though the exploration remains somewhat superficial. In the introduction, the writer attempts to frame the issue, stating that 'Many people believe that... globalisation' and 'Others argue that increased interaction... is a positive development.' However, the arguments presented in the body paragraphs tend to be repetitive and lack deep extension. For instance, the mention of Alibaba as an e-commerce platform touches on trade, but the explanation remains brief and underdeveloped. Similarly, the negative points regarding local traditions and small businesses are introduced without concrete examples or elaboration. The conclusion summarises the writer's perspective that there are pros and cons, yet the overall development corresponds best to a Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The text is organized into paragraphs, attempting a traditional essay structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by poor paragraphing, abrupt transitions, and missing cohesive devices. For example, sentences such as 'on of the enormous benefits is that one can country sell product through internet' suffer from severe mechanical errors in referencing and conjunction use. Transitional phrases are either misused or absent, as seen in the concluding paragraph with 'to terminate I believe'. Furthermore, referencing pronouns are unclear throughout the essay, making it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. These cohesive failures and mechanical issues place the response firmly at a Band 4.5.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The lexical resource is basic and repetitive, frequently hindered by word choice errors and incorrect collocations. The writer manages to use some topic-related vocabulary such as 'globalisation', 'ecommerce', and 'international markets', but these terms are often embedded in awkward constructions like 'strong the strength of communication' or 'trade globalisation throught internet'. Spelling and word formation errors are prevalent throughout the text, including 'golbalisation', 'busniess can effect', 'may loss', and 'throught'. Because the vocabulary is limited and inaccurate in places, causing occasional strain for the reader, the performance aligns with a Band 4.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The response exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying primarily on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex structures that are almost entirely faulty. Punctuation and capitalisation are largely neglected, as demonstrated by missing capital letters at the beginnings of sentences and after full stops, as well as missing punctuation marks altogether. Frequent grammatical errors include missing articles ('Internet is a powerful tool'), subject-verb agreement issues ('small business may loss'), and incorrect verb forms ('foreign culture become more popular'). Because errors are extremely frequent across almost every sentence and frequently distort meaning, the grammar warrants a Band 4.0.
