Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing the view on globalisation and providing a clear, albeit somewhat broad, personal opinion. The student presents relevant ideas, such as cultural inclusivity and the economic benefits of internet-driven trade and content creation. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or general, such as the example of black seeds and traditional remedies, which drifts a bit into a tangential medical discussion rather than focusing squarely on the socio-cultural and economic aspects of globalisation. Nevertheless, a clear position is maintained throughout the essay. The essay successfully covers the prompt's requirements, earning a solid band 6.5, leaning towards band 7 in terms of task coverage.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with distinct paragraphs dedicated to cultural exchange and economic/online trade benefits. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Furthermore' and 'For example', though referencing can occasionally feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the transition between sentences in the second paragraph could flow more naturally. Overall, the organisational structure is logical and easy to follow, fitting comfortably within the band 6.0 to 6.5 criteria, warranting a 6.0 score.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'inclusivity', 'meteoric rise', and 'worldwide sensation'. However, there are some noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as 'famous cultures' instead of 'popular cultures', 'escalated communication', and 'given acces' (spelling error). While these errors do not impede communication, they reflect a lack of precise control over collocation and word formation. The vocabulary is minimally sufficient to convey the intended meanings, aligning well with the band 6.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'Saudi Arabia is a country which has been known to use...' and 'There are platforms which allows creative people...'. However, grammatical errors are fairly frequent, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'platforms which allows' instead of 'allow', and typographical or spelling errors like 'interner' and 'painitings'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but structural inaccuracies in complex sentences persist. Because errors occur regularly without completely obscuring meaning, the writing fits the band 6.0 profile.
