Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent years, globalisation becomes an important aspect of diversifying economic, cultural and political engagement across the nations. It has been improved due to the availabilty of high quality internet, improved mode of transportation and popular culture. In my opinion, the trend of globalisation needs encourgement as it is highly beneficial to connect different people, their cultures, educational and trade opportunities and mutual economic growth.

One of the most important advantage of globalisation is to promote cultyral interaction and knowledge sharing. People can travel easily and frequently across the nations due to advance travel options that promotes tourism and mutual economic growth. Apart from this, high quality internet also opens the opportunities for communities to communicate efficiently across the globe and exchange their knowledge, Fashion, musics, food, languages and cultures. Social media is one of the examples such as Facebook and Instagram also enable people from different cultures to engage, reducing gaps in communication that existed in the past.

Another key benefit is the economic growth that comes from international trade and investment. For example, Bangladesh's garment industry exports its products all over the world, producing foreign income and creating millions of jobs. Furthermore, remote employment has become common, allowing people to earn money from international companies without leaving their homes. Online marketplaces such as Amazon allow users to buy goods from any country, expanding global business possibilities and ease of use for customers.

In conclusion, globalization develops cultural bonds, improves education, and increases economic growth. Although there are some issues to consider, I feel the benefits much bigger than the negative aspects, making globalization an essential factor for today's world

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing the view that increased interaction through globalisation is beneficial and clearly stating their own opinion that it should be encouraged. Key ideas are presented, such as cultural interaction, knowledge sharing, and economic growth through international trade. Examples are provided to support these ideas, such as Bangladesh's garment industry and Amazon. However, some points tend to generalise slightly, and the development could be extended further for a Band 7 or higher. For instance, the introduction mentions political engagement, but this is not expanded upon in the body paragraphs. Overall, the response meets the criteria for Band 6.5, but is placed at Band 6.0 due to some under-developed ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Ideas are logically sequenced, moving from cultural benefits in the second paragraph to economic advantages in the third. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader, such as 'One of the most important advantage', 'Apart from this', and 'Another key benefit'. However, referencing and paragraphing show some minor mechanical faults; for example, the first sentence of the second paragraph contains a singular/plural mismatch ('One of the most important advantage'). Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but the logical progression could be smoother. This corresponds to Band 6.5, rounded to Band 6.0 for occasional mechanical cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'diversifying', 'engagement', 'remoteness', and 'possibilities'. There are some noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'availabilty', 'encourgement', 'cultyral', 'advance travel options' (instead of advanced), and 'musics'. Despite these inaccuracies, communication is not impeded, and the intended meaning remains clear throughout. The student successfully demonstrates flexibility in discussing topics like economics and culture, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Although there are some issues to consider, I feel the benefits much bigger than the negative aspects'. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense misuse in the opening sentence ('globalisation becomes' instead of has become), missing articles, and a missing verb in the concluding sentence ('benefits much bigger' instead of 'benefits are much bigger'). However, these errors do not impede communication and the reader can easily follow the arguments. This reflects a solid Band 6 performance.
