Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, due to the recent advancements in technology and trasportation sevices, there has been an increasing shift towards globalisation. While most people believe that globalisation has improved interactions among different countries, I firmly agree that this is largely a positive development.

One of the significant reasons for this trend is the rapid technological advancements. In the recent years, many people are able to access global education through online courses across the world and gain expertise without the need for travelling. For example, online courses such as EDX and coursera are making global education possible from any part of the worls. In this way, a person can improve his skills globally and secure a job in multinational companies connecting people globally. Furthermore, people are able to make more leisure trips than ever before across the world due to vast improvements in air travel. This in turn paves way for fostering global economy by the increasing trend towards tourism.

In my opinion, globalisation has lot of positive impacts in building interactions among the nations. Firstly, it helps strenghten the cross-cultural relationships. For instance, people travelling to other countries can explore new traditions and build some language skills which are essential in nurturing new relaltionships. Secondly, with the help of trading, people can dive into new products and facilities exported from other countries while staying in their home country. Finally, through internet facilities, many individuals are able to communicate effectively with each other through video conferencing and online meetings across the nations.

To conclude, globalisation has bought in considerable changes by which poeple can interact with each other globally between countries through advancements in technology, cultural exchange and traspostation services.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing the view that globalisation fosters beneficial international interactions and providing a personal opinion. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the discussion on online education is supported with relevant examples like EDX and Coursera, and the mention of air travel leading to tourism is clear. Yet, other points, such as how cross-cultural relationships or trading facilities build interactions, tend to be repetitive and lack sufficient extension or detailed support. The writer's position is clear throughout the essay, though the overall development sits at a level where certain arguments remain somewhat general rather than thoroughly explored.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from the introduction through body paragraphs to the conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with each body paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of globalisation, such as technological advancements and general interactions. However, cohesion at times feels a bit mechanical or repetitive, particularly in the transitions between sentences and ideas, such as the frequent reuse of phrases like 'across the world' and 'globally'. Referencing is generally clear, but the overuse of certain cohesive devices prevents the flow from being entirely smooth and natural throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'multinational companies', 'cross-cultural relationships', and 'video conferencing'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors, such as 'trasportation' and 'sevices', alongside typos like 'worls' and 'relaltionships'. Word choice and collocations occasionally show inaccuracy, such as writing 'has lot of positive impacts' instead of 'has a lot of positive impacts' or 'paves way' instead of 'paves the way'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score as they highlight limitations in precision and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures through relative clauses and conditional-like phrasing, such as 'with the help of trading, people can dive into new products... while staying in their home country'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('has bought in considerable changes'), preposition issues ('in the recent years' instead of 'in recent years'), and minor agreement slips. Nevertheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the arguments without difficulty, fitting the profile of controlled mixed structures.
