Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response addresses the task only minimally. While it touches upon globalisation, the internet, and culture, the ideas remain heavily under-developed and disjointed. Furthermore, the response falls significantly short of the required word count, containing only 154 words against the mandatory minimum of 250 words. The student attempts to give an opinion ('i think this is good think for us'), but the position is presented simplistically without sufficient support or relevant examples. To reach a higher level, the writer must fully explore the prompts, extend their ideas with coherent explanations, and meet the minimum length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently in this response. The text lacks logical organization, and progression is difficult to follow because sentences run together without clear structuring. Punctuation is largely absent or misused, making it hard to identify where clauses and sentences begin and end. While there are basic cohesive devices like 'for example', they do not establish clear relationships between ideas. Paragraphing is weak, and the overall arrangement creates a confusing reading experience. To improve, the writer needs to group related ideas into distinct, well-structured paragraphs and use logical connectors more effectively to guide the reader through the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, employing words such as 'good', 'important', and 'culture' multiple times. There are numerous spelling and word-form errors that strain the reader, such as 'nowdays', 'dally', 'diffrent', 'benifit', 'impotent', 'watchinhg', and 'moves'. These inaccuracies sometimes impede communication and highlight a limited control of word choice and spelling. To move up to the next band, the student must demonstrate a wider and more accurate range of vocabulary, avoiding frequent spelling mistakes and using less common lexical items appropriately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentence structures that are frequently marred by errors. There is a lack of control over basic verb forms, tense consistency, and subject-verb agreement, as seen in phrases like 'some people was going air travel' and 'culture, was a not just for a important im people life'. Punctuation and sentence boundaries are poorly handled, resulting in run-on fragments rather than grammatically sound sentences. Frequent errors in basic grammar heavily distort meaning throughout the text. To improve, the writer needs to practice constructing accurate simple and complex sentences with correct verb tenses and proper punctuation.
