Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on globalisation and providing your own opinion that it is a positive development. However, your ideas are somewhat unevenly developed. While you provide some good examples regarding communication and culture, such as watching the swearing-in ceremony of the Nigerian president and experimenting with Chinese and Italian cuisines, other points remain very brief and lack sufficient extension. For instance, your discussion on economic benefits touches on Shoprite in Nigeria, but this idea is not fully explored. To move to a higher level, you need to ensure that all main ideas are thoroughly supported with well-developed explanations and more detailed examples throughout the entire essay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and you make use of basic cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion'. Nevertheless, your cohesion sometimes feels mechanical or faulty. There are places where referencing is not always clear, and the transition between paragraphs could be smoother. Furthermore, paragraphing is somewhat irregular; for example, the concession about the downsides of globalisation is placed inside a very brief fourth paragraph alongside several spelling and grammar errors. To achieve a higher score, you should ensure that paragraphs are balanced, logically structured, and that cohesive devices are used more flexibly and naturally to guide the reader seamlessly through your arguments.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'advent', 'globalisation', and 'cuisines'. However, your writing contains noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include spelling mistakes like 'imporved', 'use' instead of 'used', 'esaier', 'og', 'Itallian', 'Aditionally', 'internets', 'unneccesary', 'amng', and 'te'. Additionally, awkward phrasing such as 'have help to boost economy' and 'the advantages ar outweigh the advantages' limits your precision. To improve your lexical score, you need to expand your control of less common lexical items, ensure correct word forms and collocations, and carefully proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You demonstrate a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex structures. These attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, containing errors in verb forms, articles, and punctuation. For example, you write 'Development of technology which lead to the use of internet' (missing articles and incorrect verb tense), 'transportation which use to take days' (incorrect form of 'used to'), and 'althogh globalisation has its own downsides, however the advantages ar outweigh the advantages' (redundant conjunctions and incorrect verb voice). Grammar errors occur frequently throughout the text, though they rarely impede overall communication. To reach a higher band, you need to produce a greater variety of error-free complex sentences and improve your control over basic grammar rules, punctuation, and subject-verb agreement.
