Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays globalsation has been increased beacuse of the internet, global trade, increased means of transportation and cultural exchange. Many people see globalisation or increased interconnectivity among nations as a threat to their culture. In many parts of the world globalisation is considered responsible for the spread of various deadly diseases. However, in my opinion, increased interaction through globalisation is a good thing because it promotes the sense of interconnectedness among nations. No nation feels isolated these days. Additionally, it promotes trade which results in improving overall economy of the countries.
On the one hand, people see globalisation as a threat to their culture, tradition and values. According to them, through increased connectivity their cultural and ethnic values changes over time. For instance, through globalisation people from pakistan or various eastern countries become greatly influenced by western culture and traditions leaving their own moral values and obligations. Likewise, globalisation is sometimes labelled as a carrier of various diseases. People traveling from one country to another may be responsible for spreading microbes causing illness such as COVID-19.
On the other hand, in my opinion, globalisation has made a world a global village. It has increased interconnectivity by promoting trade. Now people can enjoy variety of food items in market just because of the globalisation. in the same manner, countries can take social, economic and political benfits from globalisation. For example, food scarcity in Ethiopia and Sudan was eliminated through increased connectivity among nations. Through globalisations countries get to know about each other and help in difficult times.
In conclusion, globalisation has positive impacts on humanity as it plays a vital role in increasing trade, creating more employment opportunities and promoting cultural exchange.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting arguments for both sides of the globalisation debate and stating a clear personal position. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the counterargument concerning diseases like COVID-19 is introduced in the second paragraph but left rather general without substantial extension. Similarly, the example regarding food scarcity in Ethiopia and Sudan is mentioned briefly to support economic and social benefits, but it lacks deeper elaboration. To reach a higher level, all main ideas would need to be thoroughly extended and supported with fully fleshed-out explanations and examples throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression of ideas from the introduction through the body paragraphs to the conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct viewpoints, with each body paragraph starting with a clear signpost such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand'. However, cohesion is at times somewhat mechanical or faulty. For example, referencing and transitional links occasionally feel abrupt, such as the lowercase 'in the same manner' in the third body paragraph. To achieve a higher standard, the essay would benefit from a more sophisticated and flexible range of cohesive devices that guide the reader smoothly without mechanical transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and phrases such as 'interconnectivity', 'cultural exchange', and 'food scarcity'. There are, however, some spelling errors like 'globalsation' and 'beacuse', alongside minor word-choice and collocation inaccuracies such as 'making a world a global village' and taking economic 'benfits'. These errors do not impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the arguments easily. To progress to a higher band, the vocabulary would need to show greater precision, natural collocation control, and complete freedom from spelling slips when attempting more sophisticated terminology.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The essay employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at multi-clause structures such as conditional and relative clauses. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('improving overall economy', 'enjoy variety of food items'), incorrect pluralisation ('ethnic values changes'), and punctuation slips like the lowercase start to 'in the same manner'. Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To move up to the next criterion level, the writing would need to feature a wider variety of complex structures with frequent error-free sentences and tighter control over punctuation and articles.
