Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt partially, discussing aspects of globalisation and offering a basic personal opinion in the introduction. However, the position is not always clearly maintained or supported throughout the essay. Some ideas are limited and under-developed, relying on generalised statements rather than thorough exploration. For instance, the paragraph discussing international aid and cooperation touches upon relevant points regarding China and Pakistan, but the explanation remains superficial and lacks full integration with the central prompt. Furthermore, the final conclusion briefly restates points without adding a strong sense of closure or fully synthesising the discussion. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to present a fully developed position with well-supported arguments and extended examples that directly address all parts of the task in greater depth.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some basic organisation with clear paragraph breaks representing an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, but there is no clear overall progression throughout the essay. Cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, with frequent use of simple connectors like 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'For instance'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal logical transitions between sentences can be disjointed, such as moving abruptly from internet networking to cultural sharing. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of ideas seamlessly. To improve in this criterion, the writer should employ a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices, ensure smoother transitions between sentences and paragraphs, and establish a clear, logical progression of ideas from start to finish.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for discussing the topic of globalisation. The student attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'expenditures', 'inhabitants', and 'prominent', but these attempts are often accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as 'culture exchanging' instead of 'cultural exchange' and 'transportation and exchanging of culture'. There are also several spelling and typographical errors throughout the text, including 'individauls', 'reationship', 'globallly', and 'coperation'. These errors do not entirely prevent communication, but they cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, pay closer attention to natural collocations and word forms, and ensure accurate spelling of common and topic-specific vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing capitalisation at the beginning of sentences and proper nouns (e.g., 'it an ongoing debate', 'china helped pakistan'), incorrect verb forms, and prepositional errors within grammatical patterns (e.g., 'facing several obstacles regarding to finances', 'undergoing throug flood problems'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are also inconsistent throughout the response. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted control over grammatical structures. To move up, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of error-free complex structures, pay careful attention to punctuation and capitalization, and improve overall accuracy in basic grammatical rules such as subject-verb agreement and article selection.
