Student answer (Band 7.5)
In recent years, globalisation has become an increasingly important part of modern society, largly due to the growth of international travel, trade and the internet. Although some people argue that the greater interaction between nations has negative consequences, I belive that it is largely beneficial because it promotes economic development, cultural exchange, and the sharing knowledge.
One of the main benefits of globalisation is that it creates greater economic opportunities for countries. Through international trade and investment, businesses can reach new markets and generate employment for local people. Moreover, developing countries can gain access to advanced technologies and experties from more developed nations. For example, many multinational companies have established operations in india, providing employent opportunities while also introducing new technologies and working stretegies.
However, globalisation can also have some negative consequences, particularly for local cultures and businesses. As people become incresingly exposed to international lifestyles through social media, films and other forms of popular culture, traditional customs and languages may gradually become less popular among younger generations. In addition, large multinational companies can make it difficult for small local businesses to compete because they often have greater fiancial resources and wider access to international markets. For instance, local shops may lose customers when international brands offer cheaper or more widely recognised products.
In conclusion, although globalisation can have some negative effects, such as weakening local cultures and creating challenges for small businesses, I belive that its advantages outweigh its disadvantages. Overall, globalisation promotes economic growth, cultural understanding and the exchange of knowledge between countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the positive and negative aspects of globalisation while clearly stating a personal position from the introduction to the conclusion. The ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the mention of multinational companies in India and the impact on local shops. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalize in parts, such as how traditional customs become less popular among younger generations. To reach the next level, the ideas could be pushed further with even deeper analysis or more nuanced real-world consequences, rather than relying on standard talking points. Overall, the task is handled thoroughly and maintains a clear, consistent stance throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The essay demonstrates a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, beginning with a well-defined introduction, followed by balanced body paragraphs covering the benefits and drawbacks, and closing with a concise summary. Cohesive devices are used flexibly and appropriately to guide the reader, such as "One of the main benefits", "Moreover", "However", and "In addition". Paragraphing is managed effectively, ensuring that each new idea is introduced in a separate, logical block. The progression of thought is smooth, and referencing between sentences is generally clear, which keeps the text cohesive. To achieve a higher standard, paragraph transitions and referencing could be made even more seamless and unobtrusive.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The student uses an adequate and sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as "multinational companies", "international trade", and "fiancial resources". However, there are several spelling errors ("largly", "belive", "experties", "employent", "stretegies", "incresingly", "fiancial") and minor word-choice slips that prevent the writing from attaining a higher band. These errors do not impede communication, but they highlight a lack of precision in spelling and word form control. To reach the next level, the student needs to use less common lexical items with greater accuracy and eliminate spelling mistakes entirely, ensuring a more polished and flexible control over style and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.5
The response features a good mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating frequent error-free sentences and a solid command of grammar and punctuation. The student successfully employs complex structures, such as concessive clauses ("Although some people argue that...") and relative clauses. Control over verb tenses, articles, and prepositions is generally strong. A few minor punctuation and slip-ups persist, but these do not impede communication. To move to a higher band, the writer would need to incorporate a wider variety of more sophisticated complex structures consistently, with the absolute majority of sentences remaining entirely free from mechanical errors.
