Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
It is important to first note that the response does not meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, stopping at only 142 words. Because of this severe truncation, the response can only address the task partially. While you present a clear position that the advantages of globalisation outweigh the drawbacks, and you introduce relevant arguments regarding economic growth, cultural understanding, and potential downsides like the threat to local industries, your ideas remain limited and under-developed due to the lack of a full conclusion and extended body paragraphs. To move to a higher band, you must fully develop your arguments with specific, extended examples and write well over the minimum word count to ensure all parts of the prompt are thoroughly explored.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a logical initial structure. You clearly introduce both sides of the argument and state your own opinion in the opening paragraph, followed by a transition into the counterarguments in the second paragraph. However, because the essay is incomplete and lacks a final concluding paragraph, the progression is cut short. Cohesive devices such as 'While', 'On the other hand', and 'Furthermore' are used effectively to guide the reader through the text, but referencing and paragraphing remain somewhat restricted due to the short length. To achieve a higher score, you need to ensure a complete structural progression that includes multiple body paragraphs and a concluding summary, using cohesive devices smoothly across a fully fleshed-out essay.
Lexical Resource: Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less-common items such as 'globalisation', 'homogenization', 'interdependence', and 'repercussions'. Your choice of words generally shows an awareness of style and topic-specific lexis. However, there are a few spelling and word-form errors that prevent a higher score, such as 'unprecedental' instead of 'unprecedented', 'cultaral' instead of 'cultural', and spacing issues around punctuation like 'business es'. Despite these occasional slips, the vocabulary remains adequate to convey your ideas clearly. To reach the next level, you should focus on eliminating spelling errors and expanding your use of precise, natural collocations with flawless execution.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
You display good control of grammar and punctuation, incorporating a variety of complex sentence structures such as concessive clauses ('While increased interaction between countries introduces challenges...') and participial phrases. There are frequent error-free sentences, and your sentence structures show flexibility. However, a few mechanical and grammatical errors persist, notably punctuation spacing around commas and hyphens (e.g., 'cross -cultaral') and the lowercase pronoun 'i'. These minor inaccuracies keep the grammar score steady at this band. To push into higher territory, ensure absolute precision in punctuation spacing, maintain consistent capitalization for the first-person pronoun, and demonstrate an even wider repertoire of error-free complex syntactic structures.
