Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response only partially addresses the prompt and fails to meet the minimum length requirement, cutting off mid-sentence with only 132 words written against the 250-word minimum. The student attempts to discuss the benefits of globalisation and the internet, such as booking tickets and trading, but the ideas remain very limited and under-developed. While a personal position is briefly introduced in the opening ('in my point of view the internet is a such good idea'), it is not sustained or supported throughout the essay due to the incomplete nature of the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is some basic organisation attempted, but the text lacks a clear overall progression. The writing is divided into long, sprawling run-on sentences that make it difficult to follow the logical development of ideas. Cohesive devices are either missing or inadequate, with repetitive use of basic conjunctions like 'and' and 'because'. Paragraphing is poorly handled, as the response consists of only two overly long, unstructured blocks of text followed by an incomplete fragment ('if the internet is'), which prevents any logical cohesion from being established across the essay.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, showing a limited range that struggles to cover the topic effectively. The student relies on simple terms like 'internet', 'good idea', and 'culture', alongside noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'have very big trade in company' and 'booking ticket on online'. There are also awkward phrasings like 'foreign peoples' instead of 'foreign people' or 'other nations'. While meaning can sometimes be guessed, the restricted vocabulary and inaccuracies cause strain for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mainly of faulty attempts at complex sentences joined improperly. There are frequent errors in verb forms and tenses, such as 'is having more attraction', 'if the youth... using internet', and 'it cannot be effect on study'. Punctuation and article usage are heavily flawed, often featuring run-on sentences with missing periods and commas where they are crucially needed. These frequent grammatical errors cause significant difficulty and confusion for the reader throughout the text.
