Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is widely debated whether globalisation should be given priority or not, I firmly believe that increased communication between countries is a good thing, as it helps to keep in touch with your close ones even if they are in other part of the world.

Firstly, there are compelling reasons to support the notion that globalisation via internet and transportation is beneficial to a mankind. The primary justification for this perspective lies in the ways it is helping out people of the world. This is largely attributable to the fact that aeroplanes help one person to go from one part of world to the others in a days or even in a hours. More specifically, if we compares this time peroid with the ancient ways of transportation, we will find how greatly it changed the overall scenario.

In the past, if a disease outbreak had occurred in one country, the people of nearby countries would not have gotten information instantly. Morever, if someone's relative got sick, he had to travel a very long distance for a very long time to visit them. But now-a-days, with the help of intenet , everyone can talk and see their relatives very conveniently. Beyond its immediate advantages, globalisation is making people get to know about different cultures, thereby highlighting the indispensable role of it.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that golbalisation is valuable assest as it contributes to communication and transportation. Therefore, this perspective should not be overlooked as it offers benefits that assists people from all over the world.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing globalisation and offering a personal opinion, but the ideas are developed in a limited and under-developed way. For example, the student attempts to explore the benefits of transportation and communication, but these points are supported with simplistic assertions rather than detailed extensions or well-chosen examples. Furthermore, the position is slightly hindered by the narrow focus of the main body arguments, which concentrate heavily on personal connections and staying in touch with relatives rather than broader global interactions, trade, or popular culture mentioned in the prompt. Some ideas are more fully stated than others, reflecting a partial coverage of the task where the wider implications of globalisation are largely overlooked in favour of basic personal anecdotes.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate distinct ideas. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in the slightly repetitive transitions and occasional awkward referencing. For instance, transitional phrases like 'Firstly' and 'In conclusion' are present, but the internal logical progression between sentences within paragraphs lacks seamless connection. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as when pronouns lack distinct antecedents, meaning the flow of ideas is somewhat disjointed rather than steadily progressive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'indispensable role', 'compelling reasons', and 'attributable to the fact'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form that cause some difficulty for the reader. Examples include 'beneficial to a mankind' (article and collocation issue), 'time peroid' (spelling error), and 'valuable assest' (spelling and article omission). While communication is generally maintained, these frequent lexical inaccuracies prevent the writing from achieving a higher level of precision and natural control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination with structures like 'if a disease outbreak had occurred...'. However, attempts at complex sentences are often faulty, and there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. Noticeable issues include comma splices and run-on structures in the opening sentence ('It is widely debated whether globalisation should be given priority or not, I firmly believe...'), subject-verb agreement errors ('if we compares'), and awkward prepositional usage ('in other part of the world'). These errors require some effort from the reader to interpret, restricting the grammatical score.
