Student answer (Band 6.0)

In past few years, globalisation has surged dramatically through trade, popular culture, air travel and internet. Many people think that the rising communication between countries through globalisation is a good thing. I firmly believe that globalisation has a positive impact on relationship of different nations. This essay will discuss this view and my opinion.

Many people believe that globalisation helps to develop good relation between nations. For instance, if a country interacts with other countries, it will lead to prosperity of both countries. This is mainly because they become dependent on each others and help to grow each other. Furthermore, brands like KFC and MACdonals are now popular all over the world.

I firmly believe that globalisation has a positive influence on the betterment of the nation. For example, if a country makes smart phones, parts of which will import from others and then export to some other countries. This can be attributed to the fact that modern technology make this whole process relatively easier. Another example is that a local freelancer can work for a company or client in US without leaving its own country. Students can study onlines courses of international universities.

In conclusion, I must say that globalisation play a huge role in the properity of nations. It connects the people all over the world like pakistani people can watch korean dramas while korean people can also enjoy the lollywood content. It also make cuommunication between people a lot easier. People in Pakistan can talk to their relatives living abroad through internet.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the positive views on globalisation and providing the writer's own opinion. The position is clear throughout the essay. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the paragraph discussing international trade and smartphone components touches upon relevant concepts, but the development remains somewhat limited and generalised, lacking deeper extension. Similarly, the examples regarding popular culture and entertainment, such as Korean dramas and lollywood content, are mentioned rather than fully elaborated. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to extend and support all main points with more thorough explanations and concrete, fully explored examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from the introduction through the body paragraphs to the conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different ideas, such as general international relations and specific examples of technology and culture. However, cohesion at times feels mechanical or slightly faulty. For example, the transition between sentences relies on basic cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'For example,' and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'parts of which will import from others.' To achieve a higher band, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and ensure smoother transitions between sentences and paragraphs without relying on repetitive structures.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'globalisation,' 'prosperity,' and 'freelancer.' However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that reflect a limited control of word forms and collocations, such as 'MACdonals' instead of 'McDonalds,' 'onlines courses' instead of 'online courses,' and 'properity' instead of 'prosperity.' While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they highlight an occasional inaccuracy in spelling and lexical control. To reach the next band, the writer must demonstrate a broader range of vocabulary used with greater precision, fewer spelling mistakes, and a stronger awareness of natural collocations and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, with attempts at relative clauses and conditional structures, such as 'if a country interacts with other countries, it will lead to prosperity.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('in US' instead of 'in the US'), incorrect prepositions ('onlines courses'), and minor structural awkwardness like 'modern technology make this whole process' where subject-verb agreement fails. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede overall communication. To progress further, the writer needs to increase the frequency of error-free sentences while maintaining a wider and more accurate range of complex grammatical structures.
