Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is widely argued that global connectivity has increased fastly because of the use of cultural knowledge, business, technology and transport via air and it is beneficial for building a good relation among countries. I strongly agree with this perspective because it can boost economic growth and spreads useful technology.

One of the main reason is the economic growth increases by trade between different nations. This is largely because of the Investment that is encouraged by the companies to setup large infrastructure and and also exchange of different buisness ideas. As a result, this creates more jobs. This can lead to increment in the tax revenue of the country. For example, Austarlia make good amount of money in its economy by doing trade deals of natural resources to different countries all around the world which make it easier for australia as cost of manufacturing is higher than that of other countries so it deals with counries like China or India for its metal and coal refining which benfits both countries in a way.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

First, it is important to note that the response contains 173 words, which falls significantly short of the 250-word minimum requirement. Regarding task fulfillment, the response addresses the prompt partially and presents a position, but the development of ideas is limited. While the introduction states a clear agreement regarding economic growth and technology, the body paragraph only touches upon economic growth through trade and mentions Australia briefly without fully exploring how globalisation is a good thing across multiple areas or providing a fully realised argument. To reach higher bands, the writer must ensure the word count requirement is met and extend all main ideas with deeper explanations and more comprehensive supporting examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction and a body paragraph that attempts to explore economic growth. Information is generally ordered logically, making use of basic cohesive devices such as 'One of the main reason is', 'This is largely because of', and 'As a result'. However, paragraphing is underdeveloped since the essay cuts off prematurely after only one main body paragraph, and referencing is occasionally unclear due to abrupt transitions. To improve cohesion further and move beyond the current band, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and structure the essay into distinct, balanced paragraphs representing each main idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating basic concepts related to global trade and economics, such as 'economic growth', 'investment', and 'infrastructure'. However, there are noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'fastly' instead of 'rapidly', 'Austarlia' instead of 'Australia', and 'buisness' instead of 'business'. The writer attempts less common vocabulary, but these inaccuracies restrict the precision of the writing. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to expand their range of vocabulary, eliminate spelling mistakes, and ensure that words are combined naturally in collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over sentence structure. There are instances of grammatical errors and punctuation slips, such as 'One of the main reason is' (subject-verb agreement), 'setup' instead of 'set up' (phrasal verb spelling/category), and run-on phrasing in sentences like 'this make it easier for australia as cost of manufacturing is higher than that of other countries so it deals with counries'. These errors are noticeable but rarely impede overall communication. To progress to a higher band, the writer must increase the proportion of error-free complex sentences and maintain tighter grammatical control over tense consistency and agreement.
