Student answer (Band 6.0)

In present time, some have argued that the engagement between nations through globalisation has brought positive impact due to the increase of activity in air travel, internet and trade and popular culture. In this essay, I strongly agree to this statement as it enables great economic and social growth in a country from globalisation.

The activity from globalisation provides several opportunities for a country to improve in several ways. Particularly, the economic development. The trade services can bring a positive outcome in the overall gross domestic product in a country, which can allow a better lifestyle for society as salary continues to increase while trade activity continues. For example, Malaysia's economy has improved rapidly after the trade culture has been exported to several countries. As a result, the income for individuals has gradually rose, allowing society to live comfortably and being able to pay for basic necessities.

In addition, social development in terms of infrastructure has been improving after the increase of interaction between nations. New transportation and roads have been introduced in several countries to allow better interactions. For instance, a few years ago, China introduced bullet trains for a smooth and efficient travel. Many other countries has followed this to have better access in communication between nations as it can be very convenient.

In conclusion, this essay is clear that globalisation has brought a great advantage for all nations, which not only resulted in the development of the country at present time, however, the activity from globalisation will continue to allow better communication and interaction for better things to come in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you strongly agree that globalisation benefits nations, and you give relevant economic and social reasons. The Malaysia trade example supports the economic point, while China’s bullet trains illustrate changes in transport. This addresses the task, but the discussion is uneven: the economic benefit is explained through GDP, salaries and living standards, whereas the infrastructure paragraph does not clearly show how the trains result from interaction between nations or why this is a benefit of globalisation. The prompt also invites discussion of the view, but the essay presents only supporting arguments and does not acknowledge any qualification or contrasting consideration. Develop the link between each example and globalisation more explicitly, and extend the discussion beyond the two broad benefits.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around economic and social development, and a conclusion. Sequencing is easy to follow, and signposts such as “In addition,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” help readers identify the stages of the argument. This meets the lower-band expectation for coherent arrangement and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, transitions can feel mechanical, and some links between claims are not fully clear: the move from bullet trains to “better access in communication between nations” needs explanation. The conclusion also repeats the general claim rather than drawing together the two reasons. Use referencing and transitions to show more precisely how each example supports the central argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “globalisation,” “economic development,” “gross domestic product,” “infrastructure,” and “efficient travel.” These choices make the subject clear, and some less common terms are attempted. However, several word combinations are imprecise or unnatural, such as “positive impact,” “trade culture has been exported,” and “access in communication.” Repetition of “better,” “activity,” and “development” also limits precision, particularly in the conclusion. Aim to use collocations that express the intended relationship accurately—for example, describe trade as expanding or contributing to growth, rather than as a culture being exported. More varied and precise wording would make the argument sound more controlled while preserving its clear meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including a reason clause (“as it enables…”) and a result clause (“which can allow…”). Most sentences remain understandable, so grammatical errors do not generally prevent the reader from following your argument. Some errors nevertheless recur in agreement, verb forms and sentence construction. For example, “the income … has gradually rose” should use the past participle “risen,” and “Many other countries has followed” requires “have.” The opening phrase “In present time” also lacks an article, while “this essay is clear that” is an awkward construction. Review subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and practise building accurate complex sentences. Greater consistency in these areas would improve control without sacrificing variety.
