Student answer (Band 6.0)

Recently, globalisation has soared through various types of means such as the internet, traveling , trade or even culture. Some people believe that the increased interaction between natious through it is a blessing.

In this essay, i'll discuss this perspective as well as its drawbacks and then share my opinion.

On one hand globalisation can help bridge the gap across all countries when surfing the internet or incorporating some aspects from other cultures into ours like for example, nowadays people are copying the US's famous fashion trends. Moreover, this global growth can also improve nations's economic through providing multiple job opportunities, reducing prices on goods and promoting technology and transfering knowledge thus boosting productivity. In addition, when all nations come together, they can make many breakthrough in all kinds of fields like for instance using AI in order to find for cancer and other mortal diseases.

On the other hand globalisation does have some drawbacks such as overshadowing local's cultures and traditions passed down from generations to generations for example nowadays younger generations often follow cultural trends from other countries like K-POP or eating asian food thus forgetting their own roots.

Furthermore, this also strengthening industrial's activity resulting in an increase in pollution rates as well as deforestation cases.

In my opinion, globalisation is a blessing and a curse depending on how we wield it. It can broaden our horizons in many fields from technology, education to healthcare and trading. However we must also preserve our culture and local businesses.

In conclusion, globalisation should be approached with care and precaution for it has both advantages and drawbacks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear position: globalisation is “a blessing and a curse depending on how we wield it.” Relevant benefits include job opportunities, lower prices, technology transfer and medical research, while cultural loss and environmental damage provide counterpoints. However, some ideas are asserted rather than explained. For example, the claim that globalisation reduces prices and boosts productivity is not supported with a specific explanation or example, and the AI-and-cancer point is unclear (“using AI in order to find for cancer”). The cultural example also needs a clearer link between adopting foreign trends and losing local traditions. Develop fewer points more fully and make your opinion’s conditions more specific.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for benefits and drawbacks, your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the discussion, and the ideas generally progress in a logical order. This already provides a coherent foundation. To make the progression more flexible and precise, avoid relying mainly on formulaic transitions and connect each example explicitly to the point it supports. For instance, the fashion example follows the point about cultural exchange, but the relationship to “bridg[ing] the gap” could be explained. Some references are also vague, such as “this” in “this also strengthening industrial’s activity”; name the cause or process directly.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “globalisation,” “job opportunities,” “productivity,” “deforestation,” and “preserve our culture.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “broaden our horizons” and “passed down from generations to generations.” However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “globalisation has soared through various types of means,” “nations’s economic,” and “find for cancer.” Spelling and form errors such as “natious” and “transfering” also reduce precision, although the main ideas remain understandable. Aim for natural academic collocations and check spelling and word forms; for example, describe globalisation as having “expanded rapidly” and refer to “national economies.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “when,” “such as,” and “resulting in.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include “this also strengthening industrial’s activity,” where the verb form and sentence construction are faulty, and “nations’s economic,” which has an incorrect possessive structure. There are also errors in agreement and number, as in “they can make many breakthrough,” and punctuation is inconsistent around introductory phrases and examples. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, possessives, and complete sentence structures, especially in longer sentences. Breaking complex points into two accurate sentences can improve control.
