Student answer (Band 6.5)
Modern technology, advanced transport systems, global trade and famous cultures have tuned the world into a global village. Although some people believe that some traditional culture and customes are dissapearing as a result of globalization, I personally belive that globalization has made our lives more convenient and opened doors to substantial opportunities.
Some people belive that increasing interection among people of different countries can cause loss of cultural identiy and traditional customs. They argue that as a result of globalization of cultures, people nowadays are following different trends, forgetting their own cultural belives and traditions. For instance, people are using English as an international language all over the world, which is resulting in dissapearence of some small community languages as well as the history, cultural belives and traditions associated with those languages. Another point they say is that entertainment industry has a major role in globalization, which is making some cultures and behaviours related to famous celebrities to become more popularly followed than others.
However, I believe that globalization has significant positive inpacts in our lives. Firsly, students from all over the world can study in the most prestigious universitites in the world, where they can get the best education and widen their horizons. Secondly, international trades and businesses has created job opportunities for many people around the world. Developed countries are now investing and stablishing factories in developing countries.Thirdly, modern technology has made communication so convenient that people now are booking holidays online to different regions of the world, which is also encouraging tourism industries.
In conclusion, while global communication can cause some traditional customs to dissappear, I belive globalization is causing significant improvement education and economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You discuss both the concern that globalisation can weaken cultural identity and your own view that it brings benefits, so the task is addressed and your position is clear. The examples about English and the influence of celebrity culture support the opposing view, while education, employment and tourism support your opinion. This range of relevant points, together with a stated position, shows some of the development expected at a stronger level. However, several ideas are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the link between online holiday bookings and benefits to tourism is not developed, and the conclusion refers to improvements in education and the economy without clearly summarising the main reasons. Explain the effects of each example more fully and make the conclusion more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction presents the issue and your position, the second paragraph outlines concerns, the third develops your supporting view, and the conclusion restates your stance. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “However,” “Firstly,” and “Secondly” help readers follow the argument. This logical organisation is a strength. To make the connections more flexible and natural, avoid relying mainly on numbered transitions; show more explicitly how each example supports the paragraph’s central claim. The final sentence also compresses several ideas, so the relationship between global communication, cultural customs, education and the economy is not entirely clear. More precise referencing and a fuller concluding link would strengthen the progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “global village,” “cultural identity,” “prestigious universities,” “job opportunities” and “developing countries.” These choices allow you to discuss culture, education and economic effects, and some less common expressions are attempted. However, spelling and word-choice errors occur often enough to limit precision, as in “customes,” “dissapearing,” “interection,” “belives” and “stablishing.” Some collocations are also awkward: “globalization of cultures” and “significant improvement education and economy” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Aim for accurate, conventional combinations such as “the spread of global culture” and “improvements in education and the economy,” and proofread spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concessive opening (“Although some people believe…”) and clauses introduced by “where” and “which.” Most ideas remain understandable, and the errors do not generally prevent communication. Some grammatical inaccuracies nevertheless recur. For example, “international trades and businesses has created” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “people … are booking holidays … which is also encouraging” has an unclear reference for “which.” The conclusion’s “causing significant improvement education and economy” also needs clearer grammatical structure, such as “contributing to significant improvements in education and the economy.” Review agreement, articles and prepositions, and check that relative clauses refer clearly to the intended noun or idea.
