Student answer (Band 6.0)

The growing trend towards globalisation has generated considerable discussion.Several factors including the internet, air travel, trade and popular culture, the world has become closer. Althugh there might be some drawbacks, in my opinion the benefits of a global village far outweigh the negative consequences. This essay will focus on my view.

One significant benefit is that, globalisation brings the world closer. By being more open minded and accepting about other cultures, helps individuals gain mutual respect. Moreover, internet is the biggest gateway to a global world. By giving us a view to the whole worlds content, we get to learn about how other people celebrate different customs and rituals in their countries differently. Also through travelling internationally, we converse with people from various parts of the world. These interactions, virtual or in real life, expands our cultural knowledge and helps us gain shared appreciation and trust for each other. Another major advantage is through gaining profit from the international economic trades. Through online marketing and international package deliveries, globalisation has made the global economy more achievable to reach and convenient. For instance, people can now order any chinese gadget through online shopping platforms like AliExpress, and get their required product at a much cheaper price. These benefits have always made people think of globalisation as a positive change.

One major drawback worth mentioning is excessive worldwide integration might cause people to forget their own roots. Furthermore, the younger generation gravitate towards following trendy culture more than their own tradition. As a consequence, this has created risks of losing their own cultural practices for the future generation of a nation.

In conclusion, despite of these few drawbacks, globalisation has always pushed the world to become a more accepting and peaceful place. Additionally, it has opened the door of world economy and supported us to connect with people from diverse backgrounds.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the view and make your position clear: you argue that globalisation’s benefits outweigh its drawbacks. The discussion of cultural understanding and access to international products is relevant, and the AliExpress example gives one point a concrete illustration. However, the parts are not developed equally. The economic benefit is mainly explained through cheaper online shopping, while the drawback of losing cultural roots is stated broadly without a specific example or fuller explanation of its effects. The opening also promises to focus on your view but does not clearly preview the main reasons. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of each point and support the cultural concern with a relevant example. The response meets the stated length requirement; eight words copied from the task prompt were excluded from the count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on benefits, a paragraph on a drawback, and a conclusion. The progression from cultural interaction to economic access is understandable, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “Another major advantage,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. At times, however, linking is mechanical or the relationship between ideas is unclear. The benefits paragraph repeatedly begins sentences with “By” or “Through,” and “One significant benefit is that, globalisation brings the world closer” has awkward punctuation that interrupts the flow. The conclusion also repeats the main claims rather than drawing them together. Use a wider range of natural transitions and make each paragraph’s central point and supporting explanation connect more explicitly.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “globalisation,” “mutual respect,” “cultural knowledge,” “international economic trades,” and “diverse backgrounds.” Some attempts at less common or precise phrasing are effective, but several choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “a view to the whole worlds content,” “global economy more achievable to reach,” and “supported us to connect.” There are also spelling and capitalisation slips, including “Althugh” and “chinese.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they reduce precision and polish. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully; for example, describe access to global content and say that globalisation has made international markets more accessible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional opening (“Although there might be some drawbacks”) and a relative clause (“people can now order any Chinese gadget…”). The main ideas remain understandable, but some errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation limit accuracy. For example, “By being more open minded and accepting about other cultures, helps individuals gain mutual respect” lacks a clear subject for “helps,” while “These interactions … expands” has a plural subject with a singular verb. Other examples include “the whole worlds content” and “despite of these few drawbacks.” Review how introductory phrases attach to a subject, subject–verb agreement, possessives, and article use. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control without requiring longer or more complicated structures.
