The diagram below shows how a mechanical arm works, and how the joints that make up the arm function in the same way as those in a human arm. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The figure illustrates the working of a mechanical arm and the similarity of the joints that make up the arm's function to that of a human arm.
Overall, the mechanical arm consists of a base, which helps balance the counterweight; the pivot, which allows the arm to rotate in different ways; and the wrist, which allows the gripper to rotate freely.
Firstly, the base helps keep the whole setup steady and prevent from falling. The shoulder, placed directly above the base, helps elevate or lower the arm. The pivot helps the arm to rotate freely in any direction. The elbow enables the movement of the arm or enhances flexibility.
