IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The diagram below shows how a mechanical arm works, and how the joints that make up the arm function in the same way as those in a human arm. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

A mechanical arm is demonstrated in the diagram, illustrating a mechanical arm works and how the joints that are connects the arm function in the same way as those in a human.

According to the diagram, the computer monitors and takeover its three motors in an inverted tree pattern. Each motor has specific task in each part of mechanical arm. Furthermore, the first motor regulates the lower part of the arm whereas second one plays role in mid-section of the arm. Additionally, the last one controls the uppermost parts.

Below the mid-section, the first motor supervises the shoulder that help to raises the lower arm and the pivot that monitor the rotation of the arm.

Likewise, in the mid-section there is only function that allows the movement and gives flexibility under second motor. Moreover, the remaining upper one reinforces the gripper which is built in sensors control force as human arm. Addition to that, alternative end effectors such as paint, drill holes, weld metal can be carried out according to the comfort and necessities.

Overall, the mechanical arm works are overseen by the main computer that provides the commands to its motors according to the host demands and needs.
