The diagram below shows how a mechanical arm works, and how the joints that make up the arm function in the same way as those in a human arm. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The provided diagram illustrates the process of a mechanical arm. It shows how the joints that make up the arm function in the same way as of a human arm.
Looking from the overall perspective, a mechanical arm is built same as a human arm. The base of mechanical arm is connected to a motor and it does not move on regular basis. Connecting to the base, there is a shoulder which helps to rise and fall the level of arm.
Further, a pivot is attached with the shoulder which makes arm easy to rotate accordingly. The joint known as elbow, gives more flexibility and movement to the arm. This elbow is further connected to a motor which holds the wrist of the arm. This wrist plays the major role because it allows to make a grip to hold an object and also rotate the object at a same time.
Turning to the remaining part, the end of the arm is similar to a human hand, as it controls the force and make a tight grip of objects.
