Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0

The response fails to address the core requirements of the task. Instead of describing the mechanical arm and comparing its joints to human anatomy as shown in the diagram, the student provides a tangential, philosophical discussion about the history of human labor and the transition from manual tools to computers. The prompt specifically asks for a summary of the mechanical arm's function, but the student ignores the visual data entirely, focusing instead on irrelevant personal observations about 'ancient times' and 'modernizing.' Consequently, the response does not report the main features or make the required comparisons, resulting in a failure to meet the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

While the essay is divided into paragraphs, the internal logic is severely lacking. The progression of ideas is disjointed, and the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is confusing. Cohesive devices are either absent or misused, such as the phrase 'Looking more closely,' which introduces irrelevant information rather than a detailed analysis of the diagram. The referencing is unclear, and the overall structure does not support a coherent summary of the provided information, making the text difficult to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is limited and often inappropriate for an academic report. There is a reliance on basic, repetitive words like 'work,' 'machines,' and 'things.' The student uses non-standard or invented terms such as 'modernalize' and 'hambers,' which indicates a lack of control over word formation and spelling. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe technical processes, and the frequent misuse of terms significantly hinders the clarity of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. Sentence structures are often fragmented or run-on, such as 'The diagram illustrates the process of mechanical arm work for instead computer, motors, etc.' Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, and there are persistent errors in article usage and prepositional phrases. Complex sentence structures are attempted but are almost always faulty, leading to a lack of clarity. The high frequency of errors makes the text difficult to read and understand.
