IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The diagram below shows how a mechanical arm works, and how the joints that make up the arm function in the same way as those in a human arm. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The data illustrates the diagram of a mechanical arm and how it works also it describes how the joints make the arm work just like a human arm.

Overall, it is visible that motor is the most used part in the artificial arm also other substances are gripper, elbow, wrist, pivot, base and shoulder.

First look at the diagram reveals that the whole arm stand on base which is usually stationary or occasionally movable the shoulder which is also known as riser or lower arm which is connected to the base. The pivot which enables arm to rotate is jointed to the base and shoulder so the arm can make movements easily.

Further analysis of the picture reflects that an rod from shoulder is connected to the elbow which allows the movement and provides flexibility to the joint. From elbow the wrist is connected which allows gripper with built-in sensors to control force. All the joints in Shoulder, in elbow and in gripper the advanced motors are connected which controls by the computer .
