IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The diagram below shows how a mechanical arm works, and how the joints that make up the arm function in the same way as those in a human arm. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The diagram illustrates the functioning of how a mechanical arm works and it resembles with working of human arm.
Overall, the mechanical arm have motors, base, pivot, shoulder, elbow, gripper and wrist. They perform various functions including movement upward or downward and also sensors control force.
To begin with computer, comprises 3 motors that are interconnected with shoulder, elbow and gripper. The mechanical arm performed function as alternative end-effectors in spray paints, drilling and welding purposes. Furthermore, the motor is attached with shoulder and its function is to higher and lowers the arm. However, pivot allows the arm to move in circular motion(rotate).
On the other hand, the second motor is combined with elbow, it gives complete flexibility to arm to move. Additionally, wrist also allow grippers to give support and help them to rotate. The third motor has sensory forces that helps in gripping. In addition to base, it is in stationary form and allows movement.
