Student answer (Band 5.5)

The given flowchart illustrates the mechanism of mechanical arm, and how it process like a real human arm.

Overall, computer plays significant role in operating motors which are connected by each other numerous methods. Motors are responsible for movements and gripping. Additionally it also allows sense through sensors to control force.

Intially, a particular computer operating system is installed to run three kinds of motors, first one allows movement and flexibility to elbow joint. second motor act like a wrist and facilitate to grip, flex and rotate.Third one allows gripper to handle force through sensors.

Furthurmore, base which acts like a shoulder is usually stationary but in some cases it is moveable. The pivot on shoulder joint helps arm to rotate along with it it assist the arm to raise or low. these motors are connected by alternative end effectors whic are spray paint, drill holes or weld metal to make it work like rl.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task partially by attempting to summarise the mechanism of the mechanical arm and its human-like joints, such as 'elbow', 'wrist', and 'shoulder'. However, the information presented is at times generalised and lacks full development of the main features shown in the diagram. While an overview is attempted, some parts of the description are limited or slightly confused, such as the explanation of how motors connect to end-effectors and sensors. To reach a higher band, the writer would need to present a clearer and more fully developed overview of the main features, selecting and reporting specific comparisons more accurately without leaning on unclear generalizations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation evident in the structure, beginning with an introduction and attempting a logical progression through the different components of the mechanical arm. However, the overall progression lacks smooth flow, and cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate or repetitive, as seen in transitions like 'Intially,' and 'Furthurmore,'. Paragraphing is present, but internal referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult at times to follow how individual components relate to one another. To improve, the writer needs to use cohesive devices more accurately and naturally, and ensure that each paragraph builds logically upon the previous one with clear signposting.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to communicate the basic concepts of the task, incorporating relevant terms from the prompt such as 'flowchart', 'motors', 'sensors', 'elbow', 'wrist', and 'shoulder'. There are, however, noticeable lexical errors and spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'Intially', 'Furthurmore', 'moveable', and 'whic'. Furthermore, awkward word choices and phrasing like 'how it process like a real human arm' cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the student should expand their range of vocabulary, improve spelling accuracy, and use less common lexical items with better control over collocation and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex clauses that often turn out faulty. There are recurrent grammatical errors throughout the response, including missing articles ('computer plays significant role', 'base which acts like shoulder'), incorrect verb forms ('how it process like'), and punctuation issues. These frequent errors can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader in parsing the exact meaning. To progress, the writer must focus on improving basic grammatical accuracy, particularly subject-verb agreement, article usage, and correct prepositional patterns, while reducing the frequency of errors in complex sentences.
