Student answer (Band 5.0)

The diagram illustrates the process of mechanical arm work, and how the joints that make up the arm function in the same way as human arm

overall , the process is has 5 stages the mechanics in the computer precision control of moter exactly look the same as human arm. its operated will help of three moters in each parts its attached.

Like as human body it has a base ( usually stationary and occasionally movable. it has a shoulder if functions as same as human it help to raise and lower the arm.it has a pivat ut help to rotate the arm. The elbow allows the movements and give flexibility for the mechanic for elbow also one moter is attached for proper function.

Last part is gripper it built with a sensor control force. The wrist it helps gripper to flex or rotate

as conclusion, the overall function same as human hand and it look exactly the same.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify several relevant components, including the base, shoulder, pivot, elbow, wrist and gripper, and give some of their functions. However, the response does not adequately summarise the diagram as a whole: it omits the three motors’ connections to different parts and the alternative end-effectors used for spraying, drilling and welding. The claim that the mechanism “look exactly the same” as a human arm is not supported; the diagram compares how some joints function, rather than showing an identical appearance. The overview that there are “5 stages” is also inaccurate for this component diagram. The response is 144 words, below the required 150, with 15 prompt words excluded from the count. Add a clear overview and report the main relationships more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation: you begin with an introduction, describe several parts in the middle, and finish with a conclusion. This gives the reader a broad sense of the topic. However, the progression is not consistently clear, and the description jumps from the computer and motors to the base, then to the gripper and wrist without explaining how the arm is arranged from base to end. Linking phrases such as “Like as human body” and “Last part” do not clearly show the relationships between components. Paragraphing is present but does not yet create a well-developed sequence. Organise the account spatially—from base and shoulder, up through elbow and wrist to gripper—and use accurate links such as “above,” “connected to” and “at the end of the arm.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “shoulder,” “pivot,” “elbow,” “flexibility,” “gripper” and “sensor,” so the reader can recognise several parts and functions. However, the range is limited and some word choices or spellings make the description less clear, such as “moter,” “pivat,” “mechanical arm work” and “proper function.” The repeated use of “arm” and “function” also limits precision. Aim to use the diagram’s labels accurately and choose more specific verbs for movement and control. For example, describe the shoulder as raising or lowering the arm, and the pivot as enabling rotation. This would make the vocabulary more precise and reduce ambiguity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. For example, “overall, the process is has 5 stages” combines incompatible verb forms, while “it has a shoulder if functions as same as human” has unclear clause structure and missing articles. There are also problems with agreement and sentence boundaries in “The elbow allows the movements and give flexibility,” and punctuation is inconsistent, particularly where sentences run together. These issues limit the range and control of the writing. Build accurate short sentences first, then connect them with clauses such as “which allows the arm to rotate.” Check verb forms, articles, agreement and full stops during revision.
