Student answer (Band 4.5)

The diagram below shows how a mechanical arm works, and how the joints that make up the arm function in the same way as those in a human arm. the diagram the various stages involved in the from inatialx stage to finsl outcomes.

in this diagram we clearly saw the different structures and body parts in start we can see a full computer precision in other words control of motors then its converted into 3 different parts into different parts.

Furthermore these motors covert or combine into base which is moveable it has some different parts which is pivot-enable arms to rotate , shoulders raises lower arm, elbow allows flexibility , gripper also a wrist to flex and rotate.

In side diagram shows alternative end effectors thats spray paint.

this is the whole diagram that shows the parts of computer control motors and this marks the end of the entire process.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the diagram as showing a computer-controlled mechanical arm and mention several relevant parts, including the pivot, shoulder, elbow, wrist and gripper. However, the description is minimal and does not clearly explain how the components work together. The claim that the motors “combine into base” misrepresents the diagram: the arm rests on a base, while motors control its movements. You also mention only spray painting, omitting the drill and welding examples, and do not explain the human-arm comparison. The response is 122 words, below the required 150; 29 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To improve, give a clear overview and accurately describe the arm’s structure, functions and alternative end-effectors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to move from the computer and motors to the arm’s components and then to alternative end-effectors. However, the ideas are not arranged in a clear, coherent sequence, and the response reads more like disconnected notes than a summary. For example, “Furthermore these motors covert or combine into base” does not establish a logical relationship between the motors and the base, while “this is the whole diagram” repeats the opening rather than adding a concluding insight. Linking phrases such as “in this diagram” and “Furthermore” are used, but they do not clarify the relationships between stages. Organise the response into a brief overview followed by a systematic description from the base and joints to the gripper and its alternatives.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “precision control,” “pivot,” “flexibility,” “gripper” and “end effectors,” which helps identify parts of the diagram. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the meaning difficult to follow, such as “covert or combine,” “inatialx” and “finsl.” Phrases such as “different parts” are repeated without specifying what those parts do, and “full computer precision” is not a clear description of the computer’s role. Aim for accurate, specific terms and check spelling. For example, describe the computer as controlling the motors precisely, and use verbs such as “raises,” “rotates” and “flexes” to report the functions shown.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences, but grammatical control is inconsistent and errors sometimes obscure the intended relationships. The opening after the copied task wording becomes a fragment: “the diagram the various stages involved…” The sentence beginning “Furthermore these motors…” also lacks clear grammatical structure, and punctuation is often missing or misplaced, as in the list of joints. Capitalisation is inconsistent, including the lowercase “the” after the opening sentence. Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and separate the components and their functions with accurate punctuation. A reliable pattern would be: “The shoulder raises and lowers the arm, while the elbow provides flexibility.”
