Student answer (Band 5.0)

The diagram illustrate how a mechanical arn works, and how the joints that make up the arm function in the same way as those in a human arm.

overall,it is noticeable that a mechanical arms can work like human arms.It is also a alternative end-effectors which can many things.

To begin with, computer-precision cotrol motors is most important elemants for mechanical arm.Firstly we arrange three motors and wrist, pivot, elbow, gripper and the most important thing is base and start makeing arm.Than , we set up base for usually stationary and one motor fixt upper the base for shoulder for raise or lowers arms ,after that we fixt pivot for eables arm to rotate.Than, we joint elbows for movement and we also joint a motor for smote work.At last, we joint a last motor in grip becasue of gipper and it makes it sensors control force.

Finally ,mechanical built and can anythings like spray, drill holes, weld metal etc.It is abenefical things which can do like human arms.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the diagram’s general subject and mention several relevant features, including the computer-controlled motors, the base, the joints, and the alternative uses of the end-effectors. However, the response only partly summarises how the components function: the shoulder, pivot, elbow, wrist and gripper are not all described accurately or clearly, and the comparison with a human arm is asserted rather than explained. The overview that the arm “can work like human arms” is too broad to capture the main arrangement and functions shown. The response is also below the required 150 words: it contains 142 words, and 21 words copied from the prompt are excluded from the count. To improve, give a concise overview, then accurately describe the arm’s main joints and the interchangeable tools.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response, with an opening, a sequence introduced by “To begin with” and “Firstly,” and a concluding sentence beginning “Finally.” This gives the reader some sense of progression. However, the sequence is difficult to follow because components are listed and assembled in an unclear order, and several transitions are repeated or used mechanically, such as “Than” and “after that.” The paragraphing also does not clearly separate the overview from the description of the diagram. Some links between ideas are unclear—for example, the relationship between the motors, wrist and gripper. Group the information by function or position, and use a small number of accurate linking phrases to make the progression easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “motors,” “pivot,” “shoulder,” “gripper,” and “alternative end-effectors,” so the reader can recognise the subject. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or spellings make parts difficult to understand: “cotrol,” “elemants,” “fixt,” “smote work,” and “gipper.” Phrases such as “can do like human arms” and “can many things” are also imprecise for describing the diagram. Aim to use the labels and functions shown in the visual, such as “rotate,” “raise or lower,” and “control the gripping force,” rather than attempting unclear paraphrases. More accurate collocations and careful spelling would make the description clearer and more appropriate to an academic report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example with “Firstly” and “after that,” but most sentence patterns are simple or incomplete, and attempts at more complex structures are often faulty. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in “The diagram illustrate” and “a mechanical arms can work”; articles and sentence construction are also problematic in “it is a alternative end-effectors.” Punctuation and spacing are inconsistent, particularly around commas and sentence openings, which makes the text harder to read. These recurring errors sometimes obscure the intended meaning. Practise forming clear subject–verb sentences, checking singular and plural forms, and using articles consistently. Short, accurate sentences describing each joint would be more effective than the current long, loosely connected instructions.
