IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Concern for the environment is growing rapidly and more and more people are choosing to be 'eco-tourists' - travelling in responsible, environmentally-friendly ways. As a result, the eco-tourism industry is expanding.
To what extent do you think this is a positive trend?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is true that today eco-tourism is being developed and people are trying to travel more eco-friendly than before. I fully this is a positive trend in two reasons. My essay will discuss how people are becoming eco-friendly tourists in two basic reasons.
First, nowadays technology and industry is being well developed. The more it being developed the more pollutions to i=environment or more green gas omissions and electric use. It gets harful for the nature and wildness of the nature. So people try to not harm the nature when they are travelling.
Second, new generation is growing. Young people's mind and though is so different form us and from previous generations. They know what to do, what not to do, what is good and what not. They know that if they have eco-friendly attitude to nature, the nature will stay longer keeping its beauty and wild, fresh for next generations. I can take some real examples. When people travel around, they do not through trashes, they clean up after traveling. When they travel near rivers or lakes they pick up trash and garbas around it. I know the one ethnic mongolian girl said that 'You can see our beauty and wild nature, it is fantastic, but try not to disrupt or act or behave badly to it. If you want your children to see it, think about it'.
In conclusion, eco-tourism is expanding due to change of people's mind and love to their native country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You give a clear overall view that eco-tourism is positive, and your two reasons—greater environmental awareness and younger generations’ attitudes—are relevant to the question. The examples about collecting rubbish near rivers and lakes help illustrate responsible travel. However, the explanation of the first reason focuses mainly on pollution from technology and industry, without clearly showing how eco-tourism itself reduces that harm. The quotation is also not fully explained or connected to the wider benefits of the trend. Your conclusion mentions changing attitudes but does not clearly restate how far you consider the trend positive. The response is 246 words, so it falls short of the required 250-word minimum. Develop each reason with a clearer link to the benefits of eco-tourism and a more explicit final position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “First” and “Second,” and a conclusion. This makes the main points relatively easy to locate. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear. For example, the move from industrial pollution to people trying not to harm nature needs a more explicit connection, while the quotation interrupts the example rather than being smoothly integrated. Several ideas are repeated, including the claim that people are becoming eco-friendly and that nature should be preserved for future generations. The conclusion is brief and does not fully draw together the reasons. Use clearer links between cause, action, and benefit, and organise each body paragraph around one developed point rather than repeating the general message.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary such as “eco-tourism,” “eco-friendly,” “pollutions,” and “wild nature,” and the reader can generally understand your intended meaning. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, sometimes making the message difficult to follow. Examples include “green gas omissions” for greenhouse-gas emissions, “wildness of the nature,” and “garbas” for garbage. Phrases such as “people are trying to travel more eco-friendly” and “love to their native country” are also unnatural collocations. Repetition of “nature,” “people,” and “know” further limits variety. Build a more precise set of environmental terms and check spelling, word forms, and common collocations before using them.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences, including “They know that if they have eco-friendly attitude to nature, the nature will stay longer…,” and use basic linking structures to explain reasons. However, the range of sentence forms is limited, and errors are frequent enough to make some sentences difficult to understand. For example, “I fully this is a positive trend in two reasons” is missing a verb and uses an incorrect structure; “The more it being developed” is also incomplete, and “Young people's mind and though is” has problems with agreement and sentence construction. Articles and plurals are often omitted or inconsistent, as in “have eco-friendly attitude.” Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “because,” “which,” and “if.”
