Student answer (Band 6.5)

Environmental degradation is a serious matter of concern nowadays. It is believed by many that becoming eco-tourists during travelling reduce harsh effects on environment. So I believe that this positive attitude can reduce harm to the eco-system to a greater extent.

In the ancient times, due to lack of awareness and intolerance by humans towards the environment, brought many ill-effects like water shortage, deforestation, acid rain and depletion of the ozone layer. The major problem is the harm to different natural habitats like forests, lakes and rivers which are the important source of various natural products and also the homes to different animals, birds and plants, when humans visit them they knowingly or unknowingly destroys it for their own enjoyment. But, now people are becoming more concerned about the eco-system such that they have started implementing ban on plastic and other such non-environmental friendly products and activities during traveling. This ban is not only when they travel to the jungle but also while going to different corners of the world. In many countries government have implemented stricter rules and regulations on littering and using of plastic products, they impose heavy penalties and fines on them who do not obey. Similarly, various drought-prone nations like Dubai and Saudi-Arabia have framed laws to penalize the individuals that waste water.

A majority of world-population behaves responsibly and protects and conserves the various environmental resources , undertaking it as their own social and moral responsibility rather than forced by someone to do so. Like during traveling people prefer to take less plastic bags and products along with them. Whenever they go on a picnic near any river or lakes they collect their empty food packets, soda cans and barbeque leftovers and take away with them rather than littering the natural spot.

In conclusion, this if all people come together towards protecting the environment it can not only be beneficial to them but also for the future generation to come.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the positive trend of eco-tourism. You clearly state your position in the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you provide examples of environmental protection, the link between these general environmental actions and the specific concept of 'eco-tourism' could be more explicitly defined. The essay tends to drift into general environmental conservation rather than focusing strictly on the tourism industry's impact. To improve, ensure that every paragraph directly relates back to the travel industry and the specific benefits or drawbacks of this growing trend.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'In conclusion' and 'Similarly', to connect ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For instance, the jump from historical environmental issues to modern plastic bans lacks a smooth logical bridge. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'this' in the final paragraph, which lacks a specific antecedent. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each sentence builds clearly upon the previous one will enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'environmental degradation', 'depletion', and 'moral responsibility'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'in the ancient times' (should be 'in ancient times') and 'non-environmental friendly' (should be 'environmentally friendly'). Some collocations are also slightly unnatural, such as 'implementing ban'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context. Expanding your range of topic-specific collocations related to tourism and sustainability would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('this... brought many ill-effects'), article usage ('the eco-system'), and prepositional errors ('travelling' used as a noun in a way that requires a preposition). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma splices and missing articles. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically checking for subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, which are currently the most frequent sources of error.
