Student answer (Band 7.5)
In this modern era, humans are one of the main reasons for destroying environment and concern is growing more and more. For that reason many people are choosing to be eco-tourist, which means travelling in responsible and environment friendly ways. As a consequence, the eco-tourist industry is growing day by day. I believe it is a positive development for our nature.
To begin with, one of the major reasons why eco-tourist is beneficial is that it rises environmental awareness among locals and tourist as well, which gradually improves the overall nature. By participating in environmentally responsible activities, travellers gain a better understanding of the importance of protecting nature and using natural resources sustainably. For example, many eco-tourism operators educate visitors about wildlife conservation, waste reduction, and the importance of preserving fragile ecosystems through guided tours and educational programs. As a result, tourist are more likely to adopt environmental friendly habits even after returning home, making eco-tourist highly positive trend.
Furthermore, another significant advantage of eco-tourism is that it promotes the economic development of local communities. As the number of eco-tourists increases, the demand for accommodation, transport, local guides, restaurants, and handicrafts also grows. Consequently, more employment opportunities are created, and small local businesses are able to earn a stable income. For instance, in many national parks and nature reserves, local residents works as tour guides. The revenue generated from these activities can also be invested in wildlife conservation, forest protection. Therefore, eco-tourist not only improves the livelihoods of local people but also provides financial support for protecting the environment, making it a highly positive trend.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that the growth of eco-tourism is a positive development, as it benefits both the environment and local economies. Therefore, it should be encouraged worldwide.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that eco-tourism is a positive development. The ideas are well-developed, with the first body paragraph focusing on environmental awareness and the second on economic benefits. Each point is supported by relevant examples, such as the mention of guided tours and local employment in national parks. The argument is consistent throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points. The response is well-structured and directly answers the 'to what extent' question by providing a clear, positive stance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two distinct body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a central theme. The progression of ideas is smooth, and referencing is generally clear. While some transitions are standard, they are used accurately to maintain the flow of the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary is generally appropriate and sufficient for the task. You use topic-specific terms like 'fragile ecosystems', 'wildlife conservation', and 'sustainable'. However, there are some repetitive errors in word form, such as using 'eco-tourist' (the person) when you mean 'eco-tourism' (the industry/concept). For example, you wrote 'eco-tourist is beneficial' and 'making eco-tourist highly positive'. Correcting these word-form errors would elevate the score. The range is adequate to convey your ideas clearly, though more sophisticated collocations could be used to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, particularly with subject-verb agreement and pluralization, such as 'humans are one of the main reasons for destroying environment' (missing 'the') and 'local residents works' (should be 'work'). Additionally, 'tourist are' should be 'tourists are'. Despite these errors, the meaning is never obscured, and the punctuation is generally accurate. To improve, focus on ensuring that plural nouns and subject-verb agreement are consistent throughout your writing.
