Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
This has become one of the fastest growing sectors in the tourism industry. it involves travelling to natural areas responsibly while conserving the environment and improving the well-being of a community.
It is a very positive trend that will help people to be more cognizant of the need to conserve the environment. More people will take up the challenge ensuring that places where tourists can visit are eco-friendly and up the standard.
There will be less pollution in our world today if people keep up the trend. To add on that, people and other living things can co-exist peacefully.
There is also creation of economic opportunities for local communities for example local tour guides get employment from it.
Also, eco-tourism helps preserve cultural heritage that is tourists are given a chance to experience local traditions as they interact with the locals of different communities.
However eco-tourism doesn't lack its challenges if it is not controlled there be people who will disturb the wildlife, produce waste and damage the eco-fragile systems. Therefore, government needs to take necessary measures and promote responsible tourism practices.
in conclusion, i strongly believ that the expansion of ecotourism is a positive development because it supports environmental conservation

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 201 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the arguments remain superficial and lack sufficient supporting evidence or detailed examples. While you address the prompt by identifying the trend as positive and acknowledging potential challenges, the brevity prevents a fully developed response. To improve, you must expand your points with more specific examples and deeper analysis to meet the length requirement and demonstrate a more comprehensive understanding of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into short paragraphs, which helps with readability. However, the logical progression is hindered by the lack of depth and the brevity of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To add on that' and 'However', but they are somewhat simplistic. The paragraphing is a bit fragmented, with several one-sentence paragraphs that disrupt the flow of the argument. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph contains a well-developed, cohesive argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'eco-tourists', 'cultural heritage', and 'eco-fragile systems', which is positive. However, there is a reliance on basic phrasing, such as 'This has become one of the fastest growing sectors'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and less common vocabulary to express your ideas with greater nuance and precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You have several punctuation and capitalization errors, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters ('it involves', 'in conclusion', 'i strongly believ'). There are also minor grammatical slips, such as 'eco-tourism doesn't lack its challenges if it is not controlled there be people'. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic errors and attempt to use a wider variety of complex grammatical structures with greater precision.
