Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the positive aspects of eco-tourism, such as mental health benefits and economic support for rural areas. However, the development of these ideas is limited and repetitive. The essay lacks a clear, consistent position throughout, and the arguments are somewhat superficial. While the prompt asks for the extent to which this is a positive trend, the response focuses almost exclusively on the benefits without acknowledging potential drawbacks or providing a nuanced evaluation. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more specific examples and a more structured argument that directly answers the 'to what extent' component of the question.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is often disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However' and 'In conclusion', but they are frequently used incorrectly or in a mechanical way that does not enhance the flow of the argument. For instance, the transition between the mental health benefits and the economic benefits is abrupt. Additionally, there is significant repetition of phrases like 'eco-tourist' and 'environment', which makes the text feel somewhat circular. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly improve the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and often repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'good', 'nature', and 'environment' rather than more precise academic alternatives. There are also several instances of awkward word choices and collocations, such as 'busy sitting life', 'low weight on their shoulder', and 'take money from visitors'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and the presence of errors in word formation (e.g., 'enxiety' instead of 'anxiety') prevent the essay from achieving a higher score. Expanding your vocabulary to include more topic-specific collocations related to tourism and sustainability would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'individuals wants to traveling'), incorrect article usage (e.g., 'a humans'), and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation is also problematic, with spaces missing before commas and periods. While some complex structures are attempted, they are often faulty, which can occasionally impede the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and practicing the correct use of articles and prepositions before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
