Student answer (Band 7.0)

Concern for the environment is increasing rapidly, and more people are choosing eco-tourism as a responsible way to travel. Although this trend can create some challenges, I believe it is largely positive because it helps protect the environment and encourages sustainable tourism.

One major advantage of eco-tourism is that it can reduce the negative impact of travel on nature. Eco-tourists are more likely to choose environmentally friendly accommodation, use public transport, avoid littering, and respect wildlife. In addition, money generated from eco-tourism can be used to protect forests, national parks, and endangered species. For example, entrance fees paid by visitors can help fund conservation projects and maintain natural habitats.

Another positive aspect is that eco-tourism can benefit local communities. Tourists often spend money on locally owned hotels, restaurants, guides, and handicrafts, which creates employment and supports the local economy. Furthermore, responsible tourism can make local people more aware of the economic value of protecting their natural surroundings rather than exploiting them.

Recently, I visited Australia and observed that people are more conscious about the environment. They carefully recycle materials such as metal and paper, and some of them even earn money from recycling. Therefore, recycling not only helps protect the environment but also provides people with an additional source of income. Last year, I visited Denmark, where I also observed that many people use electric bicycles for commuting. As a result, there are fewer cars on the roads, which helps reduce air pollution and carbon emissions. It is the responsibility of every individual to take care of the environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that eco-tourism is a positive trend. The ideas are relevant and well-supported with logical arguments regarding environmental protection and economic benefits for local communities. However, the development is slightly uneven; the final paragraph shifts focus toward general environmental habits like recycling and electric bikes in Australia and Denmark, which are only tangentially related to the specific concept of 'eco-tourism'. While the position is clear, the essay would benefit from more direct links between these personal examples and the specific industry of eco-tourism to fully develop the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding thought. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Furthermore', and 'Therefore' are used effectively to guide the reader through the arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, although the transition to the personal anecdotes in the final paragraph feels slightly abrupt. Overall, the information is presented in a coherent manner, and the relationship between ideas is easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is sufficient for the task and allows for some precision. Phrases like 'environmentally friendly accommodation', 'endangered species', and 'natural habitats' demonstrate a good grasp of topic-specific language. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, though some choices are relatively standard. The word choice is generally accurate, and there are no significant errors that impede communication. To reach a higher band, the student could incorporate more sophisticated collocations or idiomatic expressions related to environmental sustainability and economic development.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

The response displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and the grammar is generally controlled. Punctuation is used correctly, and the flow of the sentences is natural. There are no major grammatical errors that cause confusion. While the range of structures is adequate, the essay relies on fairly straightforward sentence patterns. Incorporating a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as conditional clauses or more varied passive constructions, would enhance the overall grammatical profile of the writing.
